against foreign invasion. The museum depicts desert life, traditional Arab homes, mosques and places of trade. It also contains antiquities from African and Asian countries, with whom Dubai traded for centuries. Dioramas depict the discovery of oil and how that has transformed the nation. One highlight is an exhibit with excavated graves from the third millennium BC.

Worth a quick visit to learn about Dubai's history. Fascinating displays include dhows, weapons, and pearl divers. Small entrance fee. Add to your souvenir collection at the gift shop.

The Dubai Museum was well worth the visit with a very reasonable fee. The outside area was small but after descending into the gallery it was large underground area with lots of space to showcase it's origins, culture and growth. The archeological artifacts were interesting and the air conditioning appreciated..

Albeit a modern fast growing city with glittering architectures, it is also interesting to understand the country better with a visit to the Dubai Museum. Not only you will learn how they navigate, but also the impressive system they have built to derive drinking water supply from groundwater and via sea water desalination. A knowledge trip indeed!

If you want to know the original UAE people then you should visit this museum. Three dirhams for entrance fee. Small museum but nice.

It's a little smaller than I thought it would be, but it's very much worth a visit. This fort was built to defend the people in this area from an invasion from the sea. Al Fahidi Fort was built in 1799, and is the oldest structure in Dubai.

Dubai has evolved immensely over the last 40 years. Located within the Al Fahidi Fort, a mud tower built to defend Dubai in 1787, is the Dubai museum. It’s well worth the visit (and small charge of 3 AED) to discover the startling changes the city-state has undergone within such a short span of time. Though the museum is not extensive, it is cleverly laid out and made interesting with wax figures, displays of Bedouin traditions, archaeological finds, an underwater pearl diving exhibition, and multimedia presentations. I found it to be a great experience to discover what life in Dubai was like before the discovery of oil and the boom of tourism.

This is probably the only thing that's over 20 years around Dubai. One of very few museum in the area, the collection is pretty small but does show its history that is often not mention. Worth to visit when you in the area, surround area is older part of Dubai that hasn't been renovated much.

Not a lot to see but interesting enough for a quick look. One of the few sights with any historical significance / relevance.

If you like waxworks, you'll loooove this museum! It's both kitschy and informative--I learned a lot about Dubai history, but I also just liked the old-school dioramas of "traditional markets" and all that stuff. It's all very smartly arranged underneath the old fort, so you enter and spiral down and around--it's surprisingly huge inside.

It was so wonderful to view a place of such history and art. I was pleased and humbled at moments to learn of the history of the peoples of the Emirates to learn more of there culture and history. It was a joy to experience a different cultural environment.

The only museum in Dubai. an interesting stop in your trip to Bastakiya. the "short" history of the emirates is told through wax figures, and a collection of old to prehistoric tools..
