Dunedin Vacations

Dunedin is a picturesque city located along the south eastern coast of the South Island of New Zealand. This city, with a population of just over one-hundred thousand, is tucked against the water and surrounded by somewhat steep cliffs inland. The unique geography makes this city focused on the sea, and their port is very much constantly bustling ... Read more
with recreational and commercial activities. In fact, Dunedin is thought to be home to the steepest road in the world in Baldwin Street, a ride that must be quite an experience during the winter months when icing is regular. More so than the unique layout, Dunedin is very much focused on its Scottish heritage, with its name actually being a Gaelic translation of Edinburgh. Various remnants of this cultural connection are present here, including at the heart of the city, where a statue of Scotland's National Poet Robert Burns is found. Whether you are a Scott or not, visiting Dunedin provides a charming atmosphere, and various natural attractions to enjoy.

Dunedin is the second-largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, and the principal city of the Otago region. We needed to take a bus/train from the port to get to this lovely city - well worth the visit.

Dunedin was one of my favourite destinations in the South Island because of Cadbury chocolate factory! The tour was amazing. As a university town, the city offers cultural delights; high quality local craft, art, jewelry and fashion outlets. Not just the arts and history, Dunedin is an excellent place to enjoy wildlife and beautiful beaches on the east coast. A number of outdoor activities such as surfing, cruises, golfing, fishing and mount-biking, Dunedin is also one of the best destinations to outdoorsy travelers.

I studied at Otago University for a semester, so I lived in Dunedin for 5 months. It's a fantastic place to live or visit. The architecture is nice and there is a lot of natural beauty nearby on the Otago Peninsula. It's kind of gloomy and the weather is very changeable, but I love it anyway.

Dunedin is a great little town for wildlife watching along with a tour of Speight's Brewery. We stayed by the ocean in St. Clair.

Pretty little hilly city, beautiful views of the harbor. It was a chilly early spring when we were there (October) so we didn't spend as much time exploring on foot as we would have liked. Close to the Otago penninsula.
