This museum consisting of six original homestead cabins features an extensive collection of artifacts from the early European-Americans who settled in this region. Included in this exhibit are books, photographs, newspapers, brochures, posters and maps along with a selection of Native American artifacts. Also on display is an intact skull and partial bone remains of a 14000 year old Bison Antiquus. In addition, they have a collection of items from the local police investigation of the "Barefoot Bandit."

A well thought out and beautifully presented history of The Island and it's founders.

Steep yourself in early Orcas Island history here, right next to the Village Green. Several early settlers cabins have been rebuilt and joined together to house their collection and it's a family friendly place to visit.

First to Review

In the 1950s and 1960s, various island families donated six original homestead cabins built during the 1870s and the 1890s to the Society. Volunteers disassembled the structures at their original sites, then moved, reconstructed and linked the structures together to create the main museum facility. These cabins are now over a hundred years old, and not only house the collections, but are considered important historical artifacts in themselves. Each cabin serves as a space for interpreting specific aspects of island history as told through the life stories and material culture of the Native American and early European-American settlers of this area.
