I’ve been here for breakfast and work nights out. The breakfast is good, but I’ve never been totally fond of their porridge. You’ll pay a little more for a drink, but the interior is cosy and maybe it’s better to drink less and chill more.

A charming hotel with a great location among restaurants and a pleasant close walk to the Meadow. Rooms have some historic and unique character (mine had a claw foot tub). I loved the towel heater in the bathroom. Staff is very friendly and attentive. The breakfast in the bistro was very pleasant (Eggs Benedict, Avocado Toast, fruit and yogurt) but a little overpriced.

Nice French bistro attached to the hotel . The vibe is romantic and cozy . Their onion soup was perfect , the rest of the dishes I had such as the beef bourguignon was just ok

I stopped here for breakfast one morning. The atmosphere was cosy and bright - with big windows facing the street. I had a salmon Benedict that was really delicious. The cappuccino was also perfect. It's definitely a little pricey, but I was glad I came.

Murder and mayhem are not the words you would normally associate with a hotel of this stature, but the Hotel Du Vin in Edinburgh has a very interesting back story and it may surprise you...just a little!

Dating back to 1647, the site which the hotel was built on was once an old cemetery. Later in years, a lunatic asylum, 'Darien House' was built and one of its most famous residents was the poet Robert Fergusson, he of 'Auld Reekie' and an inspiration to Robert Burns. There is also a connection to Burke and Hare, the most famous serial murderers of the 1800's. After seeing the profit they made from the sale of a sick tenants dead body, they went on to sell the corpses of another 17 victims to the College of Medicine in Edinburgh.

Inside the hotel you will see references to Burke and Hare and the remnants of shackles which were used to restrain patients.

Fascinating histories aside, Hotel Du Vin have succeeded in making this hotel a very comfortable place to stay, indeed!

There's 47 bedrooms and suites, a Bistro and Mezzanine Bar, events room, cigar bothy, whisky snug, Laroche tasting room and a very extensive wine cellar.

My favourite room is the Dom Perignon Suite with its Emperor bed and battleship top bath. In all of the rooms you'll find a plasma TV, DVDs, Rainfall showers and air conditioning, and as would be expected from a building such as this, all of the rooms are different sizes and shapes but all are clearly stamped with the Hotel Du Vin seal of taste and quality.
