largest stadium in the Canadian Football League, with a seating capacity of 60,000. The home of the Edmonton Eskimos, the stadium hosts the FIFA Women's World Championship, the Grey Cup, the World Masters Games and, still, the Commonwealth Games. Everyone from Bon Jovi to AC/DC, Kenny Chesney and Aerosmith have performed here. From above, it is a truly breathtaking view. From the ground, it is an extraordinary experience.

I did not actually visit the Commonwealth Games Stadium itself but, obviously, being a resident of Edmonton whilst the Games were in progress meant that they were very difficult to avoid. I have to admit that the Commonwealth Games themselves were adequately televised and we had no reason to go to the actual venues and the party atmosphere just spilled over into the wider populace for the whole fortnight and beyond.

Canadians have a greater love of the Royal Family than us Brits do - we just tend to take them for granted and try to politicise them somewhat - so the honour of having the Queen and other members of the Monarchy in attendance during the Games was more than enough to make the majority of Edmontonians want to extend the party beyond the two weeks or so that the Games were actually happening!

I've been to Commonwealth Stadium twice to cheer on the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. It also helps to go with friends who know the rules of this "Longer - Wider - Faster" game. And it's a lot of fun!

The Stadium itself is owned by the City of Edmonton and was built for the 1978 Commonwealth Games. The stadium has permanent seating for 60,081 and remains a popular venue due to its capacity. It's easy to get here via public transit or by parking nearby and walking in.

Is what it is. They have some fancy new green and gold seats now.
