Cool if your travelling here, but personally the place gives me anxiety... Packed on weekends so try to avoid that! And if you want a great experience come before 2pm

I didn't stay at the mall long enough to see everything, but there's definitely enough to do to stay there for a day! Besides shopping there's an indoor pool, an indoor skating rink, an indoor amusement park and a pirate ship that's built in the middle of a really big fountain-ish thing with a sea lion show.

The West Edmonton Mall is really really really really really big. That isn't a kiddie roller coaster, it's a serious one. (Although they do have a kiddie coaster as well)

I have been to both the Mall of America and the West Edmonton Mall on several occassions. Both were developed by the same family. I prefer West Ed overall because of the water park, ice rink and other entertainment options that I think are a bit better than Mall of America. I imagine a Minus 40 weekend in Edmonton and with my son staying at the Fantasyland Hotel and spending the weekend in the water park, dining out in nice places, and wandering the mall. Then again, maybe my son and I would drive to Jasper (~4 hours away).

Another point: Edmonton has a lot more going for it than the West Edmonton Mall. The University of Alberta is here as is the stunning Saskatchewan River Valley. There's lots of opportunity for outdoor activities here in addition to various cultural festivals and performances in this very diverse city. The Strathcona District and watching the Edmonton Esks play CFL football are also fun outings.

Reputedly the largest shopping mall in the world. Certainly the only one I've been in containing a dolphin show and a full size roller coaster.

Let your kids go here! This is a great place for families. Too large to do in a day so spend a couple of days just being a tourist. You'll have fun.

Probably the most popular attraction in Edmonton, the West Edmonton Mall can really provide hours of entertainment for both kids and adults. In addition to the normal shopping mall shops, there’s also an amusement park, waterpark, ice skating rink, miniature golf courses, sea animal shows, pirate ship, casino, and museum, all indoors. The mall is huge, so look up a map beforehand to find out which entrance to park near for whichever attraction you’re heading towards. Most of the things for kids won’t really amuse adults, but I was quite impressed with the amusement park. It’s full of roller coasters and rides that range from mild to intense for all ages. It’s a different experience to ride roller coasters indoors where you feel like you’re about to run into the ceilings and walls. However, be prepared for the loud noises.

I big shopping centres are your thing, you'll like West Ed. It's big, has a lot of different shops, a wave water park, midway, mini golf, dinner theatre, and a number of things I've probably forgotten. It's always loud and crowded but you'll probably be able to find whichever store you desire. I don't like going here but it is almost a necessary part of visiting Edmonton; everyone knows about the mall but probably nothing else about Edmonton so they will be disappointed you didn't visit the one thing they know.

Huge. Restaurants galore, hotel, waterpark inside, etc. Didn't have time to see it all. I hear the parking garage can be dangerous but we had no problem.

FORGET THE MALL!!! DO you like Rollercoasters!

By far that is one of the scariest rollercoasters I've ever been on! Not only is it famous for crashing and killing some riders in the 90's, its in such a confined space that it feels like every turn is going to throw you into a wall. It's a wild ride and SO awesome!

Yes the mall is great, and there is lots of great attractions there too. But what sold it for me.... THE ROLLERCOASTER!

One of the most amazing shopping malls in the world. It blew my mind looking down on people surfing waves on the beach while overhead (seen through the transparent roof) it was snowing at minus 30C.

they have water parks, theme parks, tattoo parlors, a hotel, an ice rink....
and shops, more shops...and still more shops. they even have seals and stuff....mother f'n seals.
I know...go figure?!?!

I enjoyed the lazy inner tube ride in the water park. Nothing like chillin in an inner tube in the dead of winter hearing people saying "ah boot."
