Allegedly the place to go to swim with dolphins in their environment, Dolphin beach remains a great beach in Eilat, where it is to spend a day with family and friends. Cats and a few dogs (belonging to the community) roam around the beach providing guests even more entertainment.

Dolphin Reef alone makes Eliat a great destination for both scuba divers and non-divers. Here you can watch bottle nose dolphins or actually pay to have a one-on-one experience in the water with a wild dolphin as long as you are comfortable swimming and between the ages of 10 and 88. Dolphin Reef was actually developed around the unique communication humans and dolphins can have with each other. I paid to snorkel with a dolphin (approximately $71 USD). Each member of our small group was paired with a trainer to have a one-to-one experience with a single dolphin. Only the trainer is allowed to touch the dolphin.

Beyond dolphin interaction, Dolphin Reef offers a secluded beach and three heated pools for relaxation: a deep, sea water pool, a shallow fresh water pool (from rain water) and a third salt water flotation pool.

What I loved most about Dolphin Reef was how protective the staff is toward the dolphins. Although the dolphins originally could leave Dolphin Reef, swim out to sea and return when they wished, that policy changed after the dolphins were getting injured.

“Unfortunately the public was still too uneducated. Dolphins approached swimmers from the various beaches, people on boats/yachts and fishermen. Due to their lack of information on how to behave towards the dolphins we encountered many problems such as people feeding the dolphins bad food, grabbing them and trying to ride on them and dolphins getting entangled in fishing lines. Both we and the Nature Reserve authorities thought it best to shut the gates and keep them inside. Today they go out only when there is a sea storm or very strong currents. We hope that with time, we will be able to let them out again and they will return to us healthy and without injuries,” says Ofra of Dolphin Reef.
