The lumberyard Tavern is a great restaurant right in the lumberyard in Encinitas. It has both al fresco and indoor dining, a great locals hang out with beers and awesome drinks. They even have fresh squeezed orange juice. They have a huge variety of food options including some excellent vegetarian plates. An awesome place for brunch on Sunday!

We had an amazing brunch here with all sorts of great breakfast foods from eggs Benedict to French toast to fruit and hash browns and so much more. The mimosas were addicting and the delicious food left us all in a food coma. All the servers were very attentive, friendly and accommodating. This restaurant is right in the heart of Encinitas and the breeze from the ocean made sitting on the patio so relaxing while I sat with my coffee and people watched. This place is a definite must if you are looking for brunch in San Diego.

Great spot for brunch in the heart of Encinitas. On the south side of the plaza and parking is available. Many different types of mimosas and Bloody Mary's are good. Omelets are tasty. I also enjoyed the French toast and waffle.

I want to come to brunch here every day. Omg. We attended a Pro Gogobot San Diego event here so we got to try a ton of stuff from the menu: French toast, Belgian waffles, sugar donuts with a strawberry compote, omelets, eggs benedict, breakfast sandwiches, scrambles, corned beef hash, and flights of mimosas and bloody marys. Everything was absolutely delicious and I can't decide what I liked best - though I'm more of a sweet breakfast lover, so I'd probably come back for the French toast. The restaurant is fairly new on Coast Highway in Encinitas and has a nice patio for those beautiful San Diego mornings. I'll definitely be back!

Spectacular service and wonderful food... I was lucky to try a spread of dishes and it is so difficult to pick a favorite. Sea food omlet and the breakfast sandwiches are high on my list. I can't forget to mention the mimosas...the grapefruit one was amazing! The location is also just blocks from the beach!

Enjoyed the grilled artichoke with aioli. Great place to watch a game with huge flat screen televisions everywhere. The beer selection is awesome.

Great place to chill out and watch a game! The staff is super friendly, there are large flat screen televisions everywhere you turn, the food is great and the beer selection stellar. What more could you ask for in a fun local sports bar? We liked the grilled artichoke with aioli and balsamic dipping sauces.

I love Lumberyard - it has a great sports bar ambience, but with sophisticated flair. Open and airy, it feels a step above classic sports bars and taverns when you dine here. I love the grilled shrimp!

To give this venue the credit it deserves, I’m going to start at the beginning so bare with me.

Planning events for 5-10 bUZZ ladies is fairly simple when it comes to choosing restaurants. I pick a restaurant and make a reservation. Done.

Choosing The Lumberyard was just as simple. Read something about them in The Reader and put it on my list of where to bring my gals. January was just their month.

Mid-December, during that horrible storm, Kelley B and I met a journalist from The North County Times at a local coffee shop and told her all about The bUZZ now and plans for the future. The story was supposed to run Christmas weekend (at least that was what I was told). The story ended up printing a day before our event, which caused a whirlwind of excitement; calls, emails, hits on Facebook, Twitter, our website. Let’s just say, it’s been nonstop since the article ran.

The positive response from everyone about my passion has been overwhelming and wonderful. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Knowing that the group had grown significantly, I tried popping in the restaurant on Monday night. Oops. Monday night on game night, not such a good idea.
I ended up going across the street to eat at Trattoria I Trulli (omg!). Must see my review about that place immediately after reading this one!!!!
It wasn’t until the next day that I called The Lumberyard (day of bUZZ night) and changed my reservation from 8 to 20+. I could have received a bad response. It’s a lot for a restaurant to have a group like that and all have separate checks. I expected hesitation, irritation, maybe even a little anger (not that that is what should have happened. It’s just the customer service that I’m accustomed to nowadays, unfortunately).

Their manager, Craig, was nothing but positive and assured me we would have the best of their best serving us and that everything should work out just fine. Great move on his part.

I arrived at The Lumberyard half an hour before the event started to set up. The staff was very friendly and helpful. That’s a huge plus! I won’t return to a restaurant if they have bad customer service, even if the food is amazing.

They had arranged for two servers, which was definitely needed considering the group grew to 25 with our honorary gentleman that was stranded here from Georgia. Hope you got back safely, Michael.

The group started with drinks and a few apps were ordered up and down the table. Once everyone ordered, I raffled off a door prize. Joanie was the lucky winner of a gift bag of goodies from Francesca’s. Rosalind was the winner of the gift certificate to Skinsational Spa in Carlsbad.

Due to the size of the group and my hosting duties, I did not eat at the event. I went back a couple of days later and tried some of their dishes.

The Portobello Mushroom is something that I would have never ordered if it wasn’t for the recommendations from a few of The bUZZ ladies who tried it. I’m not a mushroom fan, so I just went in for the stuffing of crab meat, breadcrumbs, spices, and melted cheese. Grabbing a forkful of that, plus the lobster bisque the mushroom is surrounded by, woke up every taste bud in my mouth. The stuffing alone was divine, but including the bisque made it simply amazing. I recommend that dish to EVERYONE!!!!!

The Grilled Shrimp was also a recommendation by The bUZZ gals. I eat shrimp all the time, but something about this dish didn’t do it for me. The shrimp was fresh and crisp, but it could’ve been that I had my mouth full of flavor from the mushroom and then tried the blander sauce and spices of the shrimp that it just couldn’t compare.

Calamari was next in line. I absolutely love how they use the steak. There is just so much more flavor. You can taste the spices they use in the batter as well as the calamari. It would be great if more places adopted this technique instead of what usually occurs; small squid deep fried and served. Yes, good. But what do you really taste? The fried batter.

The sauce was eerily similar to the sauce at Carlsbad Beach Grill. I believe it’s the same actually and I’ve recently discovered I can purchase the sauce in the grocery store. Yes, it’s good, but I CAN BUY IT IN A STORE.

My meal ended with the Margherita pizza. It was a perfect end to my meal. The crust was a thinner crust, which I enjoy more than a deeper dish. Other than that, it was a typical Margherita pizza, which is hard to get wrong.

I must not forget the Strawberry Waffle Sundae!!! A scoop of ice cream with crispy waffles smothered in deliciously warm strawberry sauce. Do not leave without ordering this dessert.

I am thrilled to find a sports bar with above average meals. There are more than a few similar venues that could take a hint from the Lumberyard. It’s their menu that will keep me coming back even when football is over.

I hope that all of my bUZZ ladies enjoyed themselves. It was wonderful to welcome all of you who came for the first time. It was the best group of ladies yet!

Big thanks to The Lumberyard. You welcomed us in and did a great job handling our large group. There may have been a few snags here and there, but nothing that was detrimental or not expected with our size table. I’m sure a lot of us will be back!
