It's a fun adventure in summer. What a beautiful way to enjoy the scenery along the river!

I enjoy this cruise with my elementary school class each spring when they train the new crew for the year. I also take any of my own guests to experience this well-presented, professional tour.

Ok so the rest of the stuff associated with the Riverboat Cruise sucked. But the cruise was absolutely awesome!

Free coffee and freshly made blueberry donuts. I dont eat donuts but wow... these were unbelievably great, so I ate 2! They were the first donuts I ate in entirety in at least 4 or 5 years.

Pro Tip: If you are on this tourist trap riverboat cruise, sit on the top deck on the left side near the front. Your welcome.

You get to see a lot of great things on this cruise that you wouldn't otherwise see here in AK: a float plane will take off and land a few times right next to the boat giving you a detailed explanation of how and what the pilot is doing definitely a fun thing to me, they have a sled dog kennel on the left side and will show you a summer training run and provide a basic overview of the dogs, provide some captive caribou for you to photograph down near the water, allow you to see what a typical salmon fish camp looks like and the process that the natives have used to catch and cure the fish, a stop at a native walkthrough camp so you can view multiple time periods of native culture and lifestyle.

The cruise was definitely an interesting one and my daughter and parents both liked it a bit more than I did, but I still had fun. It was a nice experience. The munchkin's favorite part was petting and being around a bunch of the sled dogs for about 10-15 minutes while listening to a lady who has finished as high as 5th in the Iditarod. Very interesting stuff.

In the end it was a fun way to learn a lil bit about the native and current culture of AK.

The Riverboat Discovery Tour takes a paddle boat up the Chena River to a native camp exhibition for a land tour, past a sled dog camp, and next to a float plane demonstration. Along the way, the tour guide on the boat interacts with people on the land via radio. There are many interesting homes along the shore. A decent family style lunch is included at the end of the tour.

Although you are packed on a boat with many other tourists, it's a good way to see Fairbanks.

A great cruise on the Chena River and seeing dog sledding, eskimo fish wheel + village, and small plane take-off and landing added to the event.
