Northeast Florida doesn't follow the typical travel trends of much of the rest of Florida. For one, winters are much cooler than south Florida -- with daytime highs in the 60s (16-19C) and a number of dips ... Read more
below freezing -- so it doesn't attract nearly as many tourists from northern states looking to escape harsh weather. Also, Northeast Florida doesn't get many menacing hurricanes, so summers, with temperatures in the 80s (27-32C), are a popular time to visit. The shoulder seasons during spring and fall are really ideal for saving some money on hotels and avoiding the hottest temperatures.

Local from Fernandina Beach, Florida

Amelia Island is the southernmost Atlantic Ocean barrier island. The spectacular sandy beaches stretch for miles along the Atlantic. The Historic Downtown has wonderful shops, boutiques, restaurants and galleries. The attractions are spectacular enough to put it on most travel guides Top 10 US Island vacation destinations. Although I have not lived here long it still feels like paradise. There is a noticeable impact on the look and feel of the city's efforts to preserve tree canopy on the island. The Atlantic Ocean beaches, although all similarly sandy and pristine, offer an uninterrupted stretch of beauty. The parks, hiking and biking trails as well as the countless other attractions have transformed Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach in particular into a fantastic family vacation destination and a wonderful place to live.

We stopped in here overnight travelling from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Atlanta, GA
Amelia Island looks a very pleasant and relaxing vacation spot, we enjoyed a magnificent Steak and Lobster meal at a restaurant and collected a bunch of sea shells from the beach.
