Figueres Catalonia - Spain
The town’s name name derives from that of Ficaris, of Visigoth origins. Figugeres is the capital of the comarca of Alt Emporda in the province of Girona Catalonia. This town is the birthplace of painter Salvador Dali and houses a part of his work at the Teatre-Museu Gala Salvador Dali. A museum that you must visit! During the Spanish civil war, Figueres remained loyal to the Republican government, and was repeatedly bombed by the rebels. The main sight are: Sant Ferran Castle build in 1753, the Gothic church of Saint Peter, and the Markets. And my tip is meet the locals and drink in the morning in a coffee house a carajillo con caffé (served in a carajillo - carajillo = a glass) con Ron (Rhum) or a with a other liquor. And a Bocadillo con Gamon (sandwich with Cerano ham).
Have a nice stay in Figueres, I love this town.

Nice little town mostly known for the Dali museum. The town has a charming old center with narrow streets and sidewalk cafes.

This is a town about an hour from Barcelona by train. The main reason to go here is the excellent Dali museum. The town itself is very cutesy and easy to walk around in with nice shops and restaurants. The train station is walkable to the town.

Their is nothing much to do in Figueres other than the Dali museum. It's a cute little town with strong French influences because it is so close to the border. I had one of my worst meals in Spain and one of my best meals in Spain here. The Dali museum is definitely worth the trip!

I didn't spent a lot of time in Figueres but I did visit the Dali museum.
As crazy and creative as Dali was, so is the museum.
The museum is like visiting a Dali's painting. If you LOVE surrealism as I do, don't miss it!
