Description
Literally meaning "old bridge", Italians could have, perhaps, come up with a better name for what was to become one of the more iconic monuments in one of its most iconic cities. Nevertheless, this ... Read more
old bridge, which was only one of six spared by retreating Germans in 1944, is a monument to all that a monarch can accomplish. Once filled with butcher shops, which would dump their old/rotted animal carcasses into the river below, Grand Duke Fernandino I demanded that all butchers be replaced by goldsmiths-- thus ridding the bridge of its stench. Nowadays, rather than rotting animal carcass, Ponte Vecchio is the most golden spot in Italy. The bridge is lined with jewelry shops and vendors (careful, you'll likely encounter a scam or two) and is pleasant enough to walk down in the evening time, when it's not packed from end to end with the thousands of toursits who traverse the Arno over its cobblestones daily.

An iconic and beautiful bridge that everyone should se one day. It gets very crowded during the day, but if you go bright and early in the morning, you will have it all to yourself. The morning light is absolutely gorgeous on the river too!

This iconic bridge is chock full of jewelry stores from end to end. It appears that every tourist in Florence feels the need to cross it, so even on a rainy day you can hardly move. The best view of the bridge is to go to the next bridge on the river and take your photos posing with the bridge in the background.

A famous landmark in Florence with a lot of WWII history. Much of the bridge is lined with jewelry shops specializing in Gold. This bridge is connecting the city center to the Palazzo Pitti with a great cafe for breakfast at the end.

It is a very nice bridge to look at from all angles and logically a great photo opportunity. When you walk on the bridge I find it a bit less attractive. And it is very much a "tourist trap", as the shops on it are only focused on tourists and expensive. This is of course also one of these landmarks that you must absolutely see and visit when you are in Firenze.

This is the most famous bridge over the River Arno and one of the most important landmarks in Florence. It's add odd sight and does not look like a bridge at all for the numerous overhanging shops whose wares attract visitors as they pass by.

Beautiful and historic, the Ponte Vecchio is a must see in Florence! (Though it is not exactly budget friendly - I enjoyed walking around looking at all the shops, but did not buy anything).

A beautiful bridge during the day but amazing lit up at night. You cross it walking amidst jewelry shops on both sides. Fortunately it was the only bridge not bombed during World War 2.

It is just simply amazing how beautiful this bridge is ... And how amazing it hosts many little stores... You take a walk in it and you transport yourself between a more modern side of Florence and the older existence of this amazing city☺️

This is a segmental arch bridge that is well known in Florence, and is still home to shops on the inside of the bridge when you cross it.

Literally means old bridge. That's generally what it is. Over the years, it's been built up with shops, mostly vendors of cheap jewelry.
