Flores Vacations

Flores is a beautiful island town on Petén Itza Lake (Lago Petén Itza). Notable for its colonial red-roof architecture and winding cobble stone streets, Flores is a true gem. The village is on a small island connected to the mainland by a causeway, which leads to the twin tows of San Benito and Santa Elena (modern and dirty in contrast to the ... Read more
charms of Flores). The three towns together are commonly viewed as a base for exploring the Mayan ruins of Tikal, though they have much to offer as well. Be sure to visit the nearby cave of the serpent (Ak’tun Kan) and ARCAS, a wildlife rescue center. The town is home to many restaurants, and adventurous travelers will find opportunity to sample exotic animals. However, keep in mind that many of these animals are illegally poached, and therefore should be avoided. Flores is a very safe place for tourists in sometimes-iffy northern Guatemala, and an excellent destination for any and all travelers.

Its only 2Km around the small island town of Flores, making it a unique little place to visit located in Lake Peten.

Set on a small peninsula in the Lago Peten Itza, Flores is best known as the service town for the ruins at Tikal, but is also a place worth visiting in its own right. With some gorgeous (and colorful) colonial architecture, and a number of good guesthouses, restaurants and cafes, it's one of the country's most atmospheric stop-offs, best appreciated lakeside with a cold cerveza Gallo.

Lazy town on an small island. It is a popular destination for tourists planning on visiting nearby Tikal. There are plenty of hostels, hotels, and places to drink and eat. It is not the most exciting place, but it is good for relaxing with a drink and watching the sunset over the lake.
