weekend special small plates. I love the wheat cake with pork and the Taiwanese style bun. The buns were very soft and puffy. Can't have enough of those. The house special chicken, fried stinky tofu and the hand-cut noodles were all quite delicious. Ever since I have discovered this place, I find myself not wanting to dine at other Taiwanese restaurants. You know what makes it even better? There were little to no wait time for a Sat lunch.

A local standard for Chinese, but not really my cup of tea (grain of salt: I'm a vegetarian).

Decent Chinese food in Foster City (of all places!). It's in a strip mall, so parking is easy enough. The prices here aren't bad and the food is pretty decent. It's run by a family, so I'm happy to support a local small business. Love the spicy battered shrimp and the spicy fried chicken.

We usually get takeout Chinese food from this restaurant since we live only 2 miles away in Foster City. Had a sit down meal upon last visit and ordered a few dishes from our usual liking. Was not very impressed with the seafood soup, the rest were just average.

At the recommendation of two Taiwanese friends, I went here to meet them for what was promised to be a delicious Taiwanese breakfast. And delicious it was! It is also kids friendly. Noisy kids won't stand out. The atmosphere is casual.

Outside of my mom's house, this is my favorite place for Taiwanese grub. It's also one of the only places you'll find me ordering everything in Chinese. I don't even know what some of the dishes I get are really called in English, so I don't look at the menu (unfortunately 8 years of Chinese school didn't do much, because I'm completely illiterate). So, if you're not Chinese or don't speak Mandarin, bring my review as a cheat sheet. I will try to spell the dishes phonetically.

Get:
-Xiao Long Bao (Shanghai steamed soup dumplings)
-Zhua Bing (flaky pancake, similar to roti prata)
-Chung Yo Bing (scallion pancake)
-Wu Xi Pai Gu (sweet sauced pork ribs)
-Dao Shao Niu Rou Mein (spicy beef knife-shaved noodle soup)
-San Bei Ji (three cups chicken - chicken simmered in sesame oil, soy sauce, Chinese wine)

There are a few items you must order in advance (at least 2 hours before, if not the day before), my favorite being:
-Dongpo Rou (stewed pork belly)

And if you're there for brunch, you should also get:
-Niu Rou Shao Bing (sliced beef inside sesame flat bun)
-You Tiao (long Chinese donut)

And if you're super adventurous for brunch, get the Chou Dofu (stinky tofu), especially if you want to clear out the place.

It's super cheap, and gets crowded on the weekends for brunch, so make reservations. Service isn't the best, but the food comes out fast. I hadn't been there in years (since it was just called Joy), and I like the remodeled space so much better. The food is the real deal, so try it out!
