For pure nature, this is one of my favorite areas in the world . . . the west coast of Norway and the fjords. Geiranger Fjord gets most of the praise (and is is fantastic) but there are many others and Sognefjord is the largest . .. but there are other quieter gems, such as Naeoryfjord, Hjorunfjord and Fjaerlandfjord. All of them majestic with their with their narrow deep inlets set off by towering walls of granite rising straight out of glass-like still water. The photo attached is of me when I was 22, arriving to look for work on farms in this area, and ended staying for six weeks.

It is incredibly beautiful. I took about 100 photos, not meaning to, but not being able to control myself from snapping pictures of the gorgeous views. It was cold on the boat, but no one cared as they stood outside on the top deck to enjoy the scenery.

The fjords of Western Norway are magical and eerily otherwordly. The Ice-Age era landscape, boasting dramatic, mountainous peaks, lush green valleys and glacial fjords (deep as the mountains are tall), makes one feel as small as if they were standing in a cathedral. The region is popular with summer travelers and winter is a busy season for skiiers and alpinists, especially with the country's new National Tourist Route initiative, which features a growing number of striking modern architecture and design along some of the region's most beautiful, and bucolic, routes, whether it be a new design hotel or a modernistic viewing deck and cafe. There's wonderful history here (Viking adventures, ancient fishing communities turned UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and, yes, lots of troll mythology), stunning modern architecture, but the most enticing reason to visit is the natural beauty of the fjords themselves.

Relaxing and picturesque ! We took the fjords tour to Sognefjord, the longest fjord and most scenic tour and it was a sight to behold.
