The battlefield marks significant historical events and it is also a beautiful treasure. Hikers, bikers, runners, and equestrians will also find challenge and tranquility in the trails and terrain

It was here that General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia fell to the Army of the Potomac under the command of General Meade. Thousands of American soldiers died here. You can get a feel for their struggle in several ways:
1. Purchase CD's at the visitor's center and drive a self-guided tour.
2. Ride on one of the park's buses.
3. Hire a private tour company -- there are plenty: buses, wagons, segways . . .
4. The best way: hire a Licensed Battlefield Guide to drive your car around the battlefield and describe the events of this historic site.

No matter which way you choose to see Gettysburg, you will not be disappointed.

Don't forget to visit the cemetery. It was here that President Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address.

So much history in one place, it's so interesting as well as sobering. It's a look back at how intense the battle really way. I recommend the auto tour- it'll take you throughout the city as well as the actual fields. There's a bunch of places to stop along the way to park and look at the monuments, and explore a little.

Huge, open park with monuments and lots of opportunity for traveling around by horseback, walking, hiking, biking or driving to see many of the pivotal moments of the Gettysburg Battle of the Civil War. Note that the war was fought throughout the town of Gettysburg as well and you can see a cannonball still embedded over the Cannonball Malt Shop, just two blocks from our rental home.

This battlefield is huge and a great place to take the kids. I've been here 5 times, and still want to come here. One of the best places to visit in the United States.

If you have any interest at all in the American Civil War 1861-1865, then the Gettysburg battlefield is the "Mecca" of it all. The "battlefield" completely surrounds the town, in fact the battle swept through the town at one point. Great place to feel the presence of those who lived and died here. Don't forget your camera! Photography here, is the number one pastime.

I am not that into military history but I like to visit places like this anyway. Take a drive around the battlegrounds and learn some about the history of the place. It's also a lovely place to walk.

Gettysburg is a battlefield on a truly grand scale. During the three day battle in 1863 Union and Confederate troops fought one another north and south of the town, with the battle actually passing through the town, itself (and remarkable killing only one civilian). The main sites to see are Seminary Ridge, Cemetery Ridge, Little Round Top, Culps Hill and the Devil's Den.

And bring a copy of the Gettysburg Address while you're at it.

I've been here a couple times over the years. Impossible not to find the human cost of war very moving. Good on the social history and on the military tactics as well. See the birth of modern warfare.

So many soldiers died in a senseless war..
They have to try to raise money to keep it open.

As a civil war history buff, I could not resist to visit such a pivotal battlefield from the civil war. To see it and walk the battlefields can not be described well with words.

Gettysburg is a very special place, a place where history comes alive for me. A place where you feel you can just reach out and touch it. Good restaurants, plenty to do and the Monuments are some of the best sculptures you'll see anywhere. Then there is the story of the battle, how amazing! Its so chronicled, if you wish, you could live it minute by minute.! A must for all history and art lovers. Shopping is wonderful to!

This is a place for the whole family and can be very educational. I also can get a little tedious if you are not into the whole war thing. Recommend going to the visitor center and choosing those things which will be the most interesting to you and skipping some of the detailed tours.
