Glendale, Arizona, is a city about nine miles northwest of downtown Phoenix, and is a big draw for professional sports fans. out the roll-out natural grass field. Next door is the Jobing.com Arena, home to the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes. The arena also puts on numerous concerts and shows. The city’s premier restaurant and nightspot is the Westgate City Center, which is just next to the stadiums and so the perfect place for a pre or post-match beer or two. If you are into the history of ranching, the nineteenth century Sahuaro Ranch is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and it’s possible to tour the ranch buildings and grounds. If hiking or biking is more your thing, head out to Thunderbird Park – a 1,000 acre desert preserve where you can also go horse riding – or White Tank Mountain Regional Park to search for the waterfall. Finally, Glendale hosts a chocolate festival each February, but if you’re in town at a different time of year and your sweet tooth starts to ache, take a tour of the family-owned Cerreta Candy Company and learn how caramel is made.

Keep in mind that many a snowbird stumbles south during this time, so you will need to book hotels early. Glendale has a lot going on for being in the middle of the desert. They have a great sports vibe with the stadiums and attractions surrounding the arenas. There are lovely hotels, spas & places to relax (and stay out of the heat!)

Glendale is home of Westgate, the plaza where the Phoenix Coyotes and Arizona Cardinals play. Around the two arenas, there is a great plaza for shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. If you are on the westside of Phoenix, I recommend checking it out! Especially for a game.
