Description
Grazer Schloßberg used to consist of bare Dolomite rock and a fort, but those are gone today except for the ruins of a watch and bell tower. However, thanks to the efforts of Franz Ludwig von Welden, ... Read more
the 473-meter high Hausberg is a beautiful, iconic public park in the city of Graz. While you can access the heights by climbing its steps, you can also ride the funicular to the top. When you reach the terminus at the top of a hill, have a bite to eat at the restaurant and admire the crystal clear view of the western part of the city. Or you could stay for an open-air concert or artistic performance on the site that used to act as the fortress’s cellar.

There is a bell tower on top of this 473-meter hill in the center of Graz which is worth climbing for the view out over the city.

Schlossberg translates as fortress mountain and dominates the central Graz skyline. There are four ways to the top: the funicular, the lift, the pathways and the stairs. A fee is charged for the funicular and the lift. The pathways offer a gradual meandering ascent or a more challenging steep ascent. The different degrees of exertion required are marked along the paths. At the top, there are remnants of the old fortress walls and the preserved clock tower and bell tower. As well, there are restaurants, casual bars, gardens and former storage area now used for performances. Markers point out the various sights to be seen and the distances to near and far cities. A visit is unavoidable while in Graz.

Schloßberg is the most famous mountain in Graz and its considered the center of the city , being not very high makes schloßberg accessible to all age groups , so that you may go there just to have a cup of coffee at the restaurant on the top
there is a big clock at its peak which you can see from many places in Graz
