Could only see it from a distance but it was extravagant in size and would spew lava every so often.

One of the most active volcanoes. We stayed at Antigua and used a local company to transport us to the volcano base. It is probably a rough hike if you are not fit (They have horses available) but it is really fun if you enjoy hiking. Best part was toasting the marshmallows in volcanic fire :-)

Book a tour to Pacaya to hike an active volcano! Vendors sell tickets around the central park and you can also book at a local travel agency. Tours depart daily at 6 am and 2 pm.

Pacaya is an amazing experience. At the top they sell fare trade jewelry for a great cause. So worth the steep hike!

I had an awesome guide named Cesar. Great experience but difficult to walk if you're not fit.

No matter how many volcanoes you hike up in Guatemala - you truly never get sick of the breathtaking views. Pacaya is no exception - and there is an added thrill to this trek as it's one of the most active volcanos in Guatemala meaning if your brave enough to approach the crater you may see small eruptions.

Hiking volcano Pacaya is an incredible experience, especially if having the right guide. It is an active volcano and, if taken on the right side and going on an afternoon hike, it is possible to view some of the explosions. The view of the sunset from up there is stunning. Tip: carry some warm clothes and wear good hiking shoes as the terrain is slippery and it gets chilly when the wind blows.

Great experience when I visited Guatemala. You can find a local tour company in Antigua to book your trip up to the volcano. The bus will pick you up from your hotel and head over to the beginning of the volcano. The trip is 1-2 miles up? So it wasn't to hard. It was crazy being that close to lava melted a tiny, tiny bit of the bottom of my shoe. Also when I came down my tongue and hands were covered in ashes, so be careful!

You can easily take a tour to Pacaya volcano from Antigua. Hiking up is quite a thrill, and from the top you will be able to enjoy seeing the Pacific Ocean, Guatemala City, Lake Amatitlan.

Awesome experience. For very cheap, you can climb and camp on top of Volcan Pacaya. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the Western Hemisphere and is very accessible. The summit to the top requires some leg strength but any athletic folk should have no trouble getting near the top. This volcano provide excellent views to the surrounding cities, wildlife surrounding it and molten lava to cook your breakfast/roast your marshmallows! If they are still offering trips to this volcano you should do it! It is worth noting that the area is not the safest so its best to take a guide and travel in groups...

Es lo máximo! La subida vale totalmente la pena, las vistas y la experiencia de hacer malvadiscos en medio del cráter es muy divertido.
