The Las Penas neighborhood is one of the oldest and most picturesque in Guayaquil. The first colonial buildings were constructed in Santa Ana, a part of Las Penas.

What a lively neighborhood filled with bars and restaurants that offer local fares. In fact, many locals come to climb the 444 steps to the top and be rewarded by spectacular views of the city, river, and malecon below.

Declared a Cultural Heritage site in 1982, Las Peñas is the most emblematic neighborhood of Guayaquil and its main tourist attraction. It is one of the few historical legacies of this largely commercial city, most of its colonial buildings have been rebuilt and painted bright colors. Its narrow streets and colorful houses along the river make it an appealing destination for tourists and locals alike.
