Halls Creek to Wiluna, Western Australia

It is often touted as one of the most difficult and remote 4x4 tracks in not just Australia, but the world. What was originally the world’s longest stock route, used to move cattle, is now a 1,850 ... Read more
kilometer-long bucket-list item for adventurers and 4WD enthusiasts. Between the terminus at Hall’s Creek, in the Kimberly, and that in Wiluna are rock art sites, Aboriginal lands, very few wells, and only one opportunity to re-fuel or buy basic supplies. Detailed planning and packing that includes plenty of extra fuel and water rations, or possibly even arranged fuel drops are essential. On average, those doing it in a standard 4WD vehicle can complete it in about three weeks time.

This was an incredible trip - one of the greatest things I've ever done! If you want to find remote, THIS is where you find remote. It isn't for everybody and it certainly isn't something to be undertaken lightly as many have found out the hard way - you could easily loose your vehicle or worse if you're not smart about it or fail to research the track. I saw plenty of burned-out and abandoned vehicles along the epic 4WD road. Good maps and info are essential. Not all the wells have water, so plan for that. Also, fuel is only available at Kunawarrijtji or by fuel drop from the Capricorn Roadhouse out of Newman. Also, read up on the history of the track. It makes it that much cooler. My partner and I made a film about our three-week adventure and you can watch it on YouTube:
