Harpers Ferry is a favorite weekend destination for summer revelers from nearby DC, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. For thru-hikers of the AT (from either direction) this town marks the half-way point of the trail and it's the perfect place to spend a day resting and gearing up to tackle the second leg of the journey.

Great little town with multiple museums, great outdoor adventures and scenes and some cool little shops and restaurants. Well worth a visit if in the area.

Harper's Ferry has a natural beauty that's as majestic as it is overwhelming. And it is where the American Civil War began in 1859, when John Brown attacked the US Army armoury in Harper's Ferry. John Brown and his followers captured the arsenal hoping that this would be the spark to set off the powder keg of slave rebellions throughout the country. After being cornered in the Harper's Ferry engine house, Brown and most of his followers were captured by the American Army led by Robert E. Lee.

Harpers Ferry is famous or place where the Civil War has ended the peace talks by both sides is now preserved by the National Park to tell the story. It is also the only point where you can stand in four different park units at once.

Spent a wonderful Saturday here with family. Scenery is beautiful and the historical treatment of John Brown's Raid is sensitively presented.

Most of the city is actually run by the park service. It's definitely worth a visit to see the history.

Just 2 hours removed from Washington, D.C. but worlds-away culture wise. A wonderful place to unwind, enjoy a charming B&B, a hike in nature, adventures on the river or some historical site-seeing. Probably the most peaceful and relaxing spot I've visited.
