Discover why more than 350,000 people visit this church each year, with its distinctive green dome and colonnades and pediments radiating out in each direction. One of the most beutiful buildings in Europe. I've always wanted to see it in person, and it is safe to say that it is as magnificent as I expexted (if not even more). Glad to have it off my 'must see' list.

The Cathedral is massive, the green domes can be seem from almost all over the city. It's a really impressive building. It was built as a tribute to Tsar Nicholas I of Russia

A distinctive landmark in the Helsinki, as I came in on an over night ferry from St. Petersburg. It one of Helsinki's most popular tourist attractions, with 350,000 visitors each year,

A hugely impressive cathedral gleaming white on senate square. Climb to the top of the steep steps for some nice views over the rooftops of Helsinki.

Helsinki Cathedral is one of the most distinctive landmarks of the city, a Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral in the center of Helsinki. The church was originally built in the mid 19th century as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia.

Since it's Helsinki's most famous sight, I think you should definitely visit it. There's a huge square in front of it - unfortunately it's surrounded by tourist buses sometimes. The inner of the church is very beautiful. It's simple - without all those wall paintings you know from common churches and has a great atmosphere!

Constructed between 1830 and 1852 this is the home of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church and is one of Helsinki's principal landmarks. Perhaps slightly more impressive from the outside the inside is nevertheless worth a visit.

Helsinki Cathedral sits impressively high above the city, making it both great for photos and a wonderful vantage point. The square area is wide, linking the adjacent university and the shops and restaurants near the waterfront.

Beautiful church in the middle of the city. Enjoy the weather sitting at the stairs in front of the cathedral. Not so special inside, but makes a great photo opportunity outside.

Even though the gift shop was being worked on when I was there, I enjoyed the visit a lot. The cathedral is beautiful and the steps are great exercise. I like the statue of Alexander II in front. I also even enjoyed the street performers as much as the beautiful dome inside the cathedral.

Helsinki Cathedral was done up in the neoclassical style by the architect Engel, who designed much of Helsinki in the early 19th century including the rest of Senate Square. It is an imposing landmark of the city. The symmetry I also find beautiful and the white cathedral looks striking in front of a blue sky.

Helsinki Cathedral is an Evangelic Lutheran church, and for many it is the symbol of Helsinki. The church was designed by architect Carl Ludwig Engel in the 19th century as part of the Empire-style-downtown Helsinki area.

Perhaps the most well-known landmark in Helsinki, it's conveniently located in the middle of Senate Square and Market Square, a Finnish Farmer's market where fresh berries and reindeer meat abound. Awe-worthy for the religious and a-religious alike, it's topped with a majestic green roof and gold cross.

This is a stark contrast to any Russian Orthodox or Catholic cathedral you have seen. Very spartan but impressive, especially the exterior.

This Neoclassic Cathedral is a national landmark built in the 18th century in the center of Helsinki. The structure, formed by a large central dome along with four smaller domes topping each of its 4 towers, is incredibly picturesque and offers great views of Helsinki and the Senate Square.
