Description
Yamashiro – translated to “mountain palace” – broke ground in 1911 and was completed in 1914 as a residence for the Bernheimer brothers. Housing a priceless collection of Asian treasures, the building ... Read more
was designed as an exact replica of a palace located in the mountains near Kyoto, Japan. During the “Golden Age” of Hollywood, Yamashiro served as the ultra-exclusive hang-out for the “Club of the Four Hundred”: the era’s most famous and influential stars and movie moguls. The structure and its grounds served as a boy’s military school and later apartments before being acquired in 1948 by the Thomas O. Glover, who discovered the beauty beneath the disrepair and refurbished the space. Currently owned by Thomas Y. Glover, Yamashiro is still flourishing over 60 years later as an Asian-inspired Los Angeles institution. Perhaps the most romantic venue in Southern California, Yamashiro’s unique ambiance of Japanese-inspired tranquility and unparalleled views offer guests a place of serenity high above Los Angeles. Executive chef Brock Kleweno leads a dynamic culinary team in creating Asian-inspired Californian fare.

Love this place for the food, view and the culture. But mostly for the events where they host poolside parties at night. Music is perfect, great place to meet people at the night market!

The food is nothing to rant about and the prices are expensive. But people really come here for the views. Perched up in the Hollywood Hills, Yamashiro has the best views in Hollywood. Plus they have a cute garden out front with a giant Buddha.

This place is a real gem. Only in L.A. could you find something this grand. Nestled at the top of the Hollywood hills. This Japanese inspired compound has decent food but amazing views and scenery.

Under new ownership, this is a Hollywood landmark (the oldest restaurant in Los Angeles, I think) with unbelievable views of the city...just a five minute walk from the front door.

Beautiful location for a dinner with an amazing view (from the patio) or unique ambience (in the Japanese indoor garden). Friendly staff, although somehow distracted (our drinks came way after the food). Very appealing menu, with choices from the sea and land..looked great, but sushi quality was average

Yamashiro is a fantastic restaurant because it has good design, food, service and wonderful outdoor view. When my friend and me got there, we were arranged to sit by the window so we could enjoy the good view over there when we had dinner. Also, the atmosphere is so cozy and romantic, so whatever you go there with families or lover are perfect. Yamashiro can not only satisfy my taste but also widen my eyesight-seeing. I love this restaurant so much, for sure.

I haven't been there for a while, but when I was there, I didn't like the food at all. It was too Americanized. The view is amazing so it's nice dating spot.

This was an amazing place to see. It's located on the hills and has an amazing view of the city. The ambience of the restaurant was very calm and relaxing. The sushi was very tasty and the mood was great. We attended a wedding there, and they executed it flawlessly. Would definitely go back for an event or even to dine. Definitely a must see place is you're visiting Hollywood.

Best view of LA hands down. This restaurant started out as a private home in the early 1900's and had s beautiful Japanese garden complete with giant Buddah and 800 year old temple. Open for dinner only is s must try spot.
Looking for drinks only in the summer they operate a lovely outdoor lounge on the garden terrace area called the Pagoda Lounge with sweeping views of LA.

We came here for a special date night without a reservation and got an awesome table overlooking the city. Great drinks, food and atmosphere. We loved it so much we brought my parents here when they were visiting!

Asian Inspired cuisine with an emphasis on sustainable California ingredients. Set in a historic Mountain Palace atop Hollywood with stunning views and incredible original architecture and some of the best food Los Angeles offers. A must visit!

Most beautiful restaurant, food and best views in LA. Their food is beyond fantastic, it's fresh, delicious, stunning and though very pricy it is very, very good. The sushi is delicious, the pasta is delicious, the drinks are Amazing! They serve my most favorite Moscow Mule, made of homemade ginger beer, vodka and lime is the best I've ever had. It's totally a treat, something worth everyone doing.
