variety of this staple of Japanese cuisine, and offer what are indeed some of the most delicious such noodles in the entire city. If you head over around dinner time be prepared to wait in a line that stretches far outside the door. Once inside, you will get a first hand look at how they freshly prepare the noodles here, a spectacle that itself is worth the non-existent price of admission. Choose what size and combination of flavors and meats you want, and proceed along the assembly line like progression to an area to choose individual additions, such as tempura and musubis. The dining area can be a bit crowded, but the attendants keep the newly vacated tables clean to ensure a steady flow. For an unique meal that is deceptively filling, head over to Marukame Udon.

This place is just incredibly good. The udon and tempura toppings are served cafeteria style too so you customize your bowl after you choose the broth/base. There is usually a long line here but it moves rather quickly even when it seems tremendously long. If you want to avoid the line completely, I would say get here around or after 3pm. The prices are pretty affordable as long as you don't get too carried away with stuffing your bowl with a millions of tempura :)

This place is very popular but worth waiting in line for. A great place to try Udon if you have never had it before. I had the curry Udon and it was excellent. Will definitely come back next time I am in Oahu.

All of their udon noodles are made in house. I like to get the Niku Udon with shredded beef. The broth is fantastic. The vegetable tempura is good too.

We all heard about this handmade udon place. Many of our friends instagram the line outside of the door and yes this place is really good. This udon place is in the heart of wakiki and right next to our hotel. This was a perfect first meal after we landed and checked in around 6. Line was only about 15 mins wait. It's cafeteria style so the line moved quick for us for the first wave of dinner goer. Udon menu is simple, soup or no soup, curry or with beef and perfectly soft boiled egg cracked in your bowl that makes you wonder till now how do they do that?! After you pick up the udon order you get to pick a variety of tempura and musubi and of course I had to get the fried soft boiled egg to see what is all about. Two big bowls of handmade udon plus plate full of musubi and tempura only total under $30. What a great start of a short birthday weekend getaway. And this place opens at 7am so if you wanna beat the line and load up on energy for that few hrs of surfing, this is a good place to go. Who would have thought right?

A good, casual style udon restaurant that serves you fast, but still has some of the best freshly made udon noodles around. As you enter to order, you can see the noodle maker doing his best to make you noddles, while attention is paid to preparing the noodles in the boiling, cooling, and chilling. Lastly, you can choose your own and add from a good variety of different tempuras and rice balls. Worth checking out just to see them make your bowl of udon!

We finally got into this place without having to wait in line. 11am. There are long lines for a reason. The food is beyond words. Cheapest meal for 6 we've had here in Waikiki for the last week. Order your soup... hot or cold... regular or large. Get your condiments. Pay. Find a table or a seat. If you don't manage to eat it all there are takeaway containers and plastic bags. Good vibes here. If you have kids... the stroller won't fit anywhere. Best to know when you are going and take a carry pack instead.

Cheap Udon (check)
Broth way too salty (check)
Fast moving lines (check)
Noodles decent (check)
Veggies (none)

I think of this place as a fast food udon place. The broth was too salty and there were no veggies/topping in sight except for the soil boiled egg I ordered and some tempura flakes. Definitely ok to satisfy some hunger pangs but far from awesome. The noodles themselves were really good. If the broth was better and there was option to add veggies I'd bump it up to a 4 stars.

So nice we ate here twice! Stayed across the street from Marukame Udon on a recent trip to O'ahu. Driving up and down Kuhio - I didn't really notice the restaurant until I saw the line at night!! Literally wrapped around the block! I decided to brave the line and got through it in approximately 15 minutes. Upon arriving at the entrance, I noticed that Marukame serves their Udon cafeteria style. You walk up, select your soup according to the menu above your head (Niku Udon, Bukkake, Ontama, Kake, and EVEN CURRY!!) As you make your way down the line, right before the cashier, you can select tempura and musubi to go along with your soup.

Service was great, Curry Soup and the Niko Soup were DELICIOUS, and Squid Tempura was AWESOME!! Overall don't be discouraged by the line. It moves at a swift pace and you will soon be having a delicious meal - and relatively inexpensive as well!!

The line is long, but while waiting, you can watch the cooks make udon noodles. Everything is affordable, and there's a selection of spam musubi, onigiri, tempura, and more items to complement your meal.

Popular udon chain and quality manages to be consistent, Marukami Udon has quick turn over so the wait really not as bad as it looks.

Wow I can see why there is always a huge line outside. I tried it for myself today and it's a cafeteria style udon restaurant. I recommend the beef udon with an egg on top. The soup base was delicious and the udon cooked to perfection. Don't be intimated by the line as it goes fairly quickly. I waited probably around 20 minute at 8:30pm on a Saturday night. I can't wait to go back!

I'm not a big udon kind of person but the noodles here were great.

We weren't able to eat here the first time we walked by. The lines were ridiculous.

We came back another day for lunch and the line wasn't as bad. I ordered the ontama udon since it came with a soft boiled egg. In addition to that, I got a ton of other side dishes that they already had laid out.

The noodles are cheap but if you don't watch what side dishes you get it, then the prices may go up!

The noodles here were great! I even had fun watching the guy making the noodles after we finished eating. There were a lot of noodles so you do get pretty full.

Would definitely come back!

Best bang for your buck... If you love udon, definitely have to give this a try. Also, go to Costco for the poke. They have variety and its priced decently. Also, buy chocolates there too.

My rating is a bit low bc the evening I came here, they were only serving one type of udon. It was New Year's Eve so they made a special menu where everyone got the same thing. The only difference was that you could add as many toppings as possible. Well, the only problem was that I wanted extra shrimp tempura (the special came with one), but they were all out. Luckily one of the chefs heard is and quickly gave us some tempura from the new batch. It was definitely kind of chaotic the night I went, but the people working there were all nice.

I liked the broth. It was not too salty and was at a good temperature. I know udon isn't exactly the easiest thing to eat or the best kind of noodles to soak up broth, but I really think of udon as comfort food. The udon here really hit the spot and made me feel less lonely being away from my family.

I didn't really like the tempura mochi balls. It had good chewy texture, but I would rather have tempura sweet potato or something. The shrimp was good. I also could have used an egg or two in my udon. Again, the night I went was a bad night so I can't say how good the other items are.

No frills. Simply good udon at unbelievably good prices (as long as you don't go overboard on the side dishes and add ons). Modern architecture inside, if a little industrial.. But hey, it's in downtown. There's usually a line, but not nearly as long a wait as the Waikiki location

So this place lives up to the hype and lines for its flavor. The udon, made in house, is spectacular. The tempura items are fresh and very tasty, and they cost an additional $1.50-1.75 each (about). Service is hasty and somewhat gruff, though the cashier was very friendly. It's cafeteria style, so expect noise, warmth and commotion. This is a great place for an authentic and cheap meal. The seating setup makes it better for groups up to four people, and most of their seats are for couples.

Absolutely killer spot for freshly made udon noodles in the heart of touristy Waikiki. Grab a tray and order cafeteria-style. Don't forget to pick up some of the giant-sized tempura (yum, Japanese-style onion rings). Bonus: it's open late.

The line is very long but moves quickly at lunch time. Sneak in at 2:00 and you walk right to the counter. The cold noodles are very refreshing and I recommend adding the egg. Don't forget the amazing a la carte tempura; my favorite is the pumpkin.

Cheap, fast and delicious! There's always a line outside of Marukame Udon in Waikiki but it moves quickly and it's worth the wait. Hand cut udon noodles in a handful of styles are available to choose from, then select your tempura items or musubi and enjoy!
