way as to create a cave where suction of ebbing waves periodically sends a spout of water high into the air. The location is overshadowed by a scenic lookout that offers front row seats to this spectacle, in addition to providing some of the best sweeping views of the Oahu coast to be found at any point around the island. Whether you are circling around the Oahu on a tour, or are heading to Sandy's or Makapuu Beach, take a few minutes to check out the show and the view from beautiful Halona Blowhole.

The blowhole is really cool and it's a nice place to take in the beautiful views that Hawaii has to offer. Just a heads up though, it does get extremely windy!!

We came here at night and let me tell you it was gorgeous because of all the stars you can see! Great place to go stargazing! Also we watched the sunrise and it was amazing very calming and relaxing! Definitely recommend this for everyone!

Not every wave surge observed results in the blowhole spewing water. Patience is required.

Uh, maybe I went when the waters were too calm but the blowhole looked like the waves hitting the side of the rock a little too hard. Lame, HOWEVER- there's a little beach next to the blowhole that it says not to go to but everyone does anyways, which was a beautiful cove with super rough waves to play in. Not for kids or bad swimmers, though.

Amazing views. The waves can be rough but worth it to make the trek down the path to the beach. Famous movie shot the beach scene down here. Great place to check out!

Amazing scenery! Please, be safe and watch the hole from afar. Only a few days ago a couple of people lost their lives when they were swept from the rocks by the waves.

This place had really nice views of the Oahu coast and a nice place to take pictures with the gorgeous scenery. The area is easy to find with the signs and has a small parking lot. If you come here on the weekend during midday, it is super busy and it felt like a tourist trap with all the huge tour buses that were stopping here at the time. Go in the the morning or week day when it is less crowded.

This is a great attraction to enjoy on a drive along the coast. It is free to visit, and easy to access with a car. Good for all ages, and not far from Honolulu.

This is a fun place to watch the blowhole and watch the waves crash against the rocks.

Another gorgeous outlook. The blowhole erupts during high tides, but the day I was there it was weak. Regardless, the scenery is breathtaking.

Right around the corner from the Halona Beach Cove you have to be here at the right time where the surf is up creating an explosion of water into the air through the blow hole. Otherwise your just looking at the rocks, beach, cove nearby which is nice on its own.

This is pretty fun to see. It's just a small spot along ocean ... very rocky. You don't go down there, but I've heard people have gone down there. But don't because it's dangerous.

When you're here you're standing a safe distance above the blowholes. The amount of water it spits up is random so you just have to stand there for a bit until you see a BIG one. A few times all you'll see is some mist. :)

Also, there's a small hidden beach near the parking lot side of the Halona Blowhole. I wouldn't go there though... I've heard there are lots of cockroaches down there.

I'd come back here. Another great FREE attraction in Hawaii!

An outstanding natural phenomenon caused by waves and time. If you time it right you can capture a rainbow in your picture.

This is a great blowhole, the real deal. It's best at high tides on breezy days. But do be careful and don't get too close.

"CHILD FRIENDLY" Tourists and vacationers come to this outlook for just the Halona Blowhole and are brought here by the bus load... Locals however, come here for Halona Cove (known as COCKROACH COVE) Tourist are not well aware of this beach and if they see it while here they don't seem to bother finding a way down to get to it and enjoy the actual beach cove. When you get to this beach you will find very few people if any on it. Only the locals know how much of a GEM this beach is! From the actual Cove below you can walk up to the Blowhole instead of seeing it with all the tourists from above...PLEASE NOTE! Depending on the time of year, making your way to the actual blowhole can be dangerous one if you don't know the area as locals do. Also if you do choose to venture down to the actual cove and make your way to the blowhole (hopefully on a calm day) NEVER GET CLOSER THEN 6-8 FEET FROM THE ACTUALL BLOWHOLE.

This spot just rocks. If you're lucky the overhang will be clear of tourists and you can get the whole, churning, spewing blowhole to yourself!

This is right near Halona Beach Cove and spews out a pretty good amount of water from the ocean. You can also see it in the distance from Sandy Beach. Years later after I left Hawaii I realized that I snapped a picture from Sandy Beach and it has the blowhole in action. Lucky shot!
