Description
The World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument at Pearl Harbor Hawaii is both one of the top attractions in Hawaii and is also one of the most historically significant. More than two thousand ... Read more
American soldiers and civilians died that faithful day back on December 7, 1942 and this somber memorial pays their heroic memories due honor. Entry into the part itself is free, as is a ride out to the popular USS Arizona Memorial, although they are on a first come first served basis. There are also a number of other attractions to enjoy, including the USS Bowfin Submarine, the USS Missouri, and the newly remolded Pacific Aviation Museum. In addition to the museum, the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center itself enjoyed a drastic renovation at the end to 2010 that allowed this beautiful open-air facility to better take advantage of the picturesque Hawaiian bay that it borders. If you are on Oahu, do not miss your chance to tour and learn at this truly historic location. The best time to visit is first thing in the morning, before the tour busses arrive.

This is very humbling to see the ship still under water and the names of people who died there and those who have gone since.

You must take the time to visit this site. It is a very moving experience and one that you won't forget. The main site is the USS Arizona Memorial that stands above the sunken vessel and her fallen sailors, serving as a reminder of their sacrifice and commitment.

Arrive early if you want to get tickets to the Arizona. Before you go to the memorial they'll show you a 25 minute documentary... bring tissues.

Lots of good sights to be seen here and history to take in. You can spend a whole day here visiting the four main attractions: Arizona memorial, the Mighty Mo, the Bowfin, & the Pacific Aviation museum.

You just have to do it, it's a respect thing. It takes longer than you think, definitely do the Bowfin.

This is a big must on your Hawaii tour. I would recommend you wake up early and line up at 6am to get an early spot. Basically once you're in line, you wait till 7am so you can get your ticket. We got the 7:30 time slot, so we watched the video about WWII and then we went on the boat ride to the USS Arizona Memorial. The boat ride was awesome cause we got the hear the National Anthem also. You got to spend about half an hour at the memorial before you head back. After you head back, you can have a chance to walk through the museum. The museum took about almost 2 hours to walk through and we learned a lot about everything going on during WWII. This is a very great experience that everyone should go to when you're in Hawaii!

Very interesting World War II museums and memorials. Note that if you want to see the sunken ship Arizona memorial, you need to get there by 8am, but the rest of the complex is still great even if you don't see the Arizona.

A wonderful tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives. Very nice museum, but crowded. Difficult to maneuver a wheelchair through because of the crowds. Take the boat ride over to the memorial.

The visit to Pearl Harbor was more interesting and more moving than I had expected. We just did the free part, which included a 20 minute informational video about the attack, which was well done, and then a boat ride out to the USS Arizona Memorial. I had seen pictures of the memorial on Gogobot, but had not realized that curved white building in the water is actually spanning over the sunken wreckage of the USS Arizona, which is now a tomb to the hundreds of sailors who died onboard in the attack. Get there early, as you need tickets (even for the free stuff) and space is limited.

A MUST see! Get there early, like first thing in the morning to get your number as they only allot so many visitors per day. After you see the USS Arizona don't forget Big MO, the USS Missouri.

This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Honolulu because of the history. There is a lot to see here and it's really an amazing visit. Be prepared to stay for a few hours and experience Pearl Harbor.

So so... I was expecting to see ruins and preserved broken stuffs here. That'll tell the story more than scripted tours and monuments. Everything was arranged and sculpted. Not much history here outside of the recorded sounds and movie. The most exciting one was the sunk ship (you don't really sea it, there's a monument on top. But it's still leaking oil, and that's what moves you most, cuz it makes you feel like touching a part of history.
You can explore around without buying the tour. It's like a park. The audio tour is to tell you what happened where.

It is one of the most poignant sites I have ever travelled. Do book ahead to go to the Arizona Memorial & the USS Missouri is well worth the price of admission. War is terrible but this is a great reminder of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
