Hyderabad Vacations

The heartland of the Deccan Plateau and a bastion of classical Islamic culture in the Hindu South, Hyderabad (and its twin, Secunderabad) are a fascinating mix of Old-World and high-tech: people sometimes refer to the city as ‘Cyberabad’. With both glittering shopping malls, crumbling forts, and overgrown necropolises, the twins cities are known as ... Read more

With the adventures of Mowgli in India’s jungle being adapted for the big screen next year, the introduction of a luxury cruise ship along the Ganges, and new hotel openings in offbeat locations, India remains a firm focus for 2015.
Hyderabad, the ‘City of Pearls’ and capital of Andhra Pradesh, bathes in a rich royal history of opulence and elegance. The legacy remains today in the Old City, where enchanting bazaars, ornate mosques and private art museums vie for attention. The new Hyderabad is an eccentric collusion of old and new.

The Gujarat remains the wild heart of India. Off the popular tourist trails, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi is surrounded by rural tribal villages, traditional textiles, unimpeded wildlife parks and sacred mountaintop temples. Witness here the daily beauty of rural India. Time your trip to one of the vibrant religious festivals for sheer Indian immersion.

Luxury abounds at Taj Falaknuma Palace hotel, one of the finest palaces in Hyderabad. With ballroom, balustrades, candelabras and jade collection, a stay here is fit for royalty.

Part hyper-modern IT metropolis, and part medieval city, Hyderabad has some of the nicest people in India, and less of the hassle found in the subcontinent's bigger tourist sites. Excellent food (biryani & haleem, mmmm!) and lovely ruins at the medieval Golconda fort and the Tombs of the Qutb Shahi Kings, the city gets fewer visitors that its sights, food, bazaars, and people actually merit.

Many people ask about the best places to visit. It depends on what kinds of places (historical, eating, shopping...) you want to visit. According to me some of the activities are as below:

Charminar: Without going to this place, your trip is incomplete. This is a great historical place and you can see the rich culture of Hyderabad here. This place has lots of shops and laad bazaar is right next to this monument. This place is the best place in the world to buy beautiful bangles. Also, there are some jewellery shops where you can get the famous Hyderabadi pearls.

Golconda Fort: This is a great historical place. If you go here you can visit Qutubshahi tombs as well.

Salarjung Museum; Hussain Sagar lake;

Eating: You SHOULD eat Hyderabadi biryani. The best place for this is Paradise hotel in Secunderabad. Also, try this sweet called "khubani ka meetha"

Shopping: It depends on what types of things you want to buy. For western wear: Inorbit mall; For ethnic/traditional: visit Shilparamam near Hitech City.

Hyderabad is long on great food and rich cultural history. But short on scenic sites. Its a very busy city in south india. A commerce and IT hub. A 1 or 2 day trip here would be great for its unique culinary experience.

My City. Come here and tell me if you don't LOVE it. This city serves as the bridge between the North and South India. This city is the true Cosmopolitan you will ever find.

Fun little city in India. Not too big, not too small and very diverse and friendly. Enjoy the autos (motorized rickshaws) and many people favor the Briyani and Kebabs for food and Pearls for Shopping while here. Highly recommend the Fort but prepare for a hike and bring water!!
