Isla Mujeres Vacations

Although only eight miles northeast of Cancun, Isla Mujeres feels like a million miles away in terms of attitude. Come enjoy white sand beaches, turquoise water and relax beneath a coconut palm on this quiet refuge in the Caribbean Sea. Just over four miles long, transportation on the island is largely by golf cart and mopeds, Once a sacred ... Read more

Like most tropical regions, the Yucatan Peninsula has a wet and dry season. The region’s wet season (May to November) is hot, humid and rainy with the occasional hurricane blowing in. Despite poor weather, July ... Read more
and August are popular times for foreign and Mexican tourists to visit. However, if you’re dreaming of a sunny beach vacation, head here in the dry season (late November to February) when the weather milder and less rainy. Unfortunately, you won’t be alone on that white sand beach (especially if you’re planning a Christmas vacation: tourism peaks from mid-December to early January, which drives up prices), but at least you’ll get to bask in the sun without it raining on your parade.

Isla Mujeres is a Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea, 13 kilometers off the coast from Cancún. It's a holiday destination known for beaches such as northern Playa Norte, resort hotels and for snorkeling and scuba diving on the surrounding coral reefs. At Punta Sur, the southern tip, there's a lighthouse, the remains of a Mayan temple and a sanctuary for sea turtles.

We have been coming to this area for 15 years often several times a year and have fallen in love with the people, the sights, the beautiful beaches with shops and restaurants galore. We have provided maps of the Island as well as Cancan with special golf cart tour of the Island and maps of Cancun to Playa Del Carman. We have a small bar for help taking the edge of a hard day travel. The maps offer directions and reviews of every shop, bar and restaurant on the island.

I visted Isla Mujeres with my two daughters some years back and we all absolutely loved it. It was easy to get to from Cancun, yet still had an off the beaten path feel. Hotel Secreto was the perfect boutique size. We rented golf carts and toured around the island on our own, discovering hidden beaches and a turtle sanctuary facility that my daughter adored. There were many great restaurants and small cafes we spent time in and the local people were very nice,

Lots of shops, prepare to walk a lot unless you have money to rent golf cart, then you can see the other side of island.

Beautiful small island not far from Cancun. Make sure to hit Playa Norte and check out the Sea Walls street art!

Sadly, we weren't able to enjoy the beauty and everything this island has to offer due to the terrible weather. We took a ferry that took about 30 minutes. We rented a golf cart in hopes of seeing the entire island. Not even half way into our ride it started to downpour and thunder and the roads quickly started to flood. It was a miserable and dangerous experience because of the weather :( The one cool thing we were able to do was swim with a nurse shark.

Flew to Cancun from San Francisco to visit the mayan ruins. Started in Isla Mujeres, which was awesome (not touristy like Cancun and Playa del Carmen and Cozemel). Took bus to Playa del Carmen, then to Coba ruins, then to Chicheniza (sp), stayed at Dolores Alba Hotel near ruins, then after exploring the awesome ruins took bus to Merida, then on to Uxmal ruins (overnite in Merida, unbelievable), then to Palenque ruins (overnite in Palenque, breathtaking)
