Great place to boogie board as the waves are bigger. Be careful on the really big days.

Peaceful, secluded beach in Kailua, Oahu. Remember that the parking lot closes at 6pm!

The waves were large, not too crowded, beautiful sand, and wonderful place to relax!

North of the main Kailua Beach, Kalama is a local hangout. When used to be too big and rough for swimming, but bodyboarding is pretty rad. This is where families and residents come to take evening walks at sunset.

Even on the weekends this beach does not seem to have that many people on it. The entrance can be a bit difficult to find since a little bit of walking is necessary to get to the actual beach. There does seem to be a lot of little pieces of plastic in some parts of the sand.

Kalama beach on the windward side of Oahu between Kailua and Kaneohe doesn't have the reef protected calm waters if Waikiki or Lanikai beaches. But it gas a lot less people and is good to practice your short board or boogie board skills

Kalama Beach...the Local secret GEM of the Windward side.

Tourist don't come here and Locals would love to keep it that way. This little beach park has it's own little parking lot. It fills up quickly so finding road parking is the norm. This location of beach is truly special and it is truly cherished by those who live here. Kalama is located to the far left side of Kailua Beach and you need to drive on the main road for a little distance to find the small parking lot to the beach.

Because Kailua have become so overly populated locals have made this location their little slice of paradise.

With new laws put in place however, with buses coming into Kailua, perhaps locals can start hitting up Kailua beach more often again and not have to go that far down the coastline.

Personally, even if Kailua chilled out and wasn't as busy I would still choose Kalama either way...always have, always will when it comes to my personal slice of heaven on the Windward side.
