The stupa itself is so impressive! But there are also great souvenir shops and restaurants in the circle surrounding it. Join the crowds of people (and when we were there - a cow!) circling the stupa in a clockwise direction.

As you walk into the circular compound where the stupa stands, you will see the buildings relatively close, all around 360 degrees from this stupa. From one of the rooftops of the restaurant, you can enjoy the full view.

Massive Buddhist shrine. Very cool example of the Stupa style of temple. It feels a bit more touristy than the Swayambhunath Stupa temple. Nevertheless, it is worth checking out.

By some accounting the largest stupa in the world (not of course larger than Java's Borobudur, but who's counting?), the Buddhist monument at Boudhanath in the Kathmandu Valley is classic Nepali scenery -- colorful prayer flags fluttering against a sky blue sky while tourists and pilgrims alike spin prayer wheels and snap photos. For setting alone, it can't top Swayambhunath, but combine this stupa with a walk to the Pashupatinath temple nearby and you've got a pretty awesome afternoon.

Once again, I give props to Matthew Crompton who reviewed before me. And add that however limited your time in Nepal might be and despite this stop being swarmed with tourists, I cannot recommend enough as a stop on your spiritual journey of Nepal!! ENJOY :)

A beautiful Buddhist temple/stupa in a thriving upscale (for Nepal) part of kathmandu.

Enjoy and get on your toes with the magnificent view of stupa with flocks of bird landing and taking off. Walk 3 big rounds clockwise of the stupa and hopefully bad luck & evil spirits will go away. Catch people doing their prayers or pilgrimage on their way to the temple, kneeling once every 3 steps.

A visit to the huge Stupa at Bodnath was one of the highlights of my visit to Kathmandu. A huge stupa, surrounded by temples, shops and buildings with beautiful Newari architecture. This area is home to many Tibetan Refugees.
There are more than 45 Buddhist monasteries in the area.
It lies about 6 km to the east of downtown Kathmandu.

Do take time to visit this wonderful place.

When I was in Nepal, the place i stayed was very close to Bhoudha. Every evening, I went there to have a walk, 3 times clock-wise. Peace in mind.
