It’s really nice to understand history that has changed the people of Rwanda. The genocide that killed almost 1/2 a million of Tutsi and Hutu people. It’s free entrance but you can donate some money to them.

What a peaceful serene place housing so many sad stories & over 200 buried genocide victims. Welcoming staff & informative videos plus audio guides. There's a small water font garden to go cool off if u feel overwhelmed by this documented horrific history.

My visit coincides with the 20-year commemorations of the inter-tribal genocide of Hutus and Tutsis, which nearly ripped the land apart. Within 100 days, nearly 1 million lives were lost. Now, to ask people about their tribe is illegal. At Rwanda’s state-of-the-art Genocide Museum, a walk-through is an extremely vivid and well-documented journey. The museum graphically details the genocide here in Rwanda, genocides around the world and those whose lives were claimed. The children’s room is overwhelming, with smiling pictures and heart-wrenching factoids about each child. Outside, walk amidst the mass burial graves housing more than 250,000 people. I save this visit until I’ve toured the country, heard first-hand insights and am fully immersed in Rwanda. I’m glad I did, to give it the respect and feeling it deserves.
To compare this to Kigali today, the contrast is literally unbelievable. The turnaround is phenomenal and commendable.

One of Kigali's main tourist sites. The museum explains the horrors surrounding the genocide. There site commemorated the largest mass grave, with the bodies of over 250,000 victims. The stories you will follow here are poignant, and really make one hope that we can learn from these horrible events and prevent them from happening in the future

This is a very well done and moving. Most of us will never experience the horror or such an event and it is difficult to really appreciate the enormity and impact of such a thing, let alone the impact on individual lives. If we can ever get a glimpse into the psyche of those who survived and those who perpetrated such a horrific event, this museum does the job. Do not miss this. To make it even more moving, bodies are still being recovered and often funerals are held at the mass grave out front. You'll come away moved and truly changed.

A must-see in Kigali. The museum is well orchestrated and respectful. A place for mourning as well as an important repository for information about the genocide, including: key events, causes, and the implications for modern Rwanda.

Plan to spend a minimum of 1-2 hours. The audio tour is a must and is both succinct and informative.

A bit of a propaganda center. Had not planned to visit but was kinda of forced by the guide. Didn't like being petted like a terrorist at the entrance.
The museum itself is very interesting even if it kinds of re-write history about the genocide. Once visited take the time to visit the garden around because it's really a nice garden and the view on the hills of Kigali is really nice.
