Knoxville, TN is a town in southeastern TN and is the home of the University of TN Volunteers. It is a lively small city with a wealth of cultural and outdoor activities.

Fun college town that is absolutely obsessed with the Tennessee Volunteers. Can't walk down the street without seeing someone in Vols gear.
But a nice manageable downtown, and you can be by the river in 15 minutes.
Definitely strip mall vibe anywhere outside the downtown

Pretty nice city for the size. You sort of get the big town feel in a much smaller package. Good location near the Smokies.

Knoxville is a charming city known for its great food and southern hospitality. You'll find the University of Tennessee here, and the entire city seems to be overflowing with school spirit - go vols!

Knoxville is a mid-sized town located in east Tennessee and a little further north from the Smoky Mountains. It's a nice city to spend a day or two in and has a good nightlife filled with restaurants and bars.

I simply love Knoxville. The scenic beauty of its landscape, its historical sites, its museums, its cuisine, its shops, restaurants and pubs, not to mention it's salt-of-the-earth type people. If you want to experience hospitality, look no further than eastern Tennessee, especially the eastern city of Knoxville.

Beautiful Southern city with great shopping areas, restaurants, and beautiful subdivisions. Also only about 40 minutes from the cabin!

When I first moved to North Carolina, I wasn't expecting to much like the South. I fell in love with many aspects, and starting finding I heartily enjoyed its small towns, much more than I thought I would. Greenville, South Carolina; Asheville, North Carolina. I've been to Knoxville twice now, and had a good time. If you're there during football season, do whatever you can to get tickets to see the Volunteers play. Seriously, these people live for the game (my friend I was visiting, a journalist from Zambia/Pennsylvania, became a huge Vols fan and painted her living room wall Tennessee orange ... she was most definitely NOT the type before she moved to Knoxville). While there, a) eat biscuits, b) check out the World's Fair site downtown, c) go to the flea market, and d) visit the surrounding mountains (you won't be far from Dollywood and the astoundingly tacky capital of Gatlinburg in the Great Smoky Mountains).
