small fishing town of Bayahibe on the main island. Once here, dig your toes into white sand beaches, splash in clear turquoise waves, or go snorkeling and explore the island's incredible coral reefs. If you feel like moving off the beach, go exploring in Saona's caves and mangroves, and discover the island's diverse plant and animal life.

Speedy boat first stops at this really cool underwater island 100 yards away from the island where the water is waist deep and you can touch the starfish. Beautiful clear blue water, white sand & drinks. Then off to the saona island. Beautiful beach with beach chairs set up and a bar with music. Great food on the grill made by the locals. Best food we had the whole trip. Only downside; bring your swim shoes cuz the swimming area is really really rocky under those waves for about 50-60 feet out then the ocean floor gets smooth.

Saona Island is one great place to visit while you visit us! It is a tropical island located a short distance from the mainland on the south-east tip of the Dominican Republic. It is a government protected nature reserve and is part of East National Park (in Spanish Parque Nacional del Este). It is a popular destination for tourists from all over the Dominican Republic, who arrive in fleets of catamarans and small motorboats on organized excursions every day. The Island is famous for the natural beauty of its beaches, and has been used on many occasions by film-makers and advertisers looking for a stereotypical "desert island" setting for their film or product. It is promoted amongst European visitors as the setting for the famous Bounty chocolate bar adverts.

Thursday was micks excursion...he chose the caribbean cruise we met the coach at the lobby at 7:00 on the dot... our guide was called Roberto... he talked to us about the agriculture eg sugar cane mangos grown in the punta cana area... the island of Saona that we visited that day and looked after us very well throughout the day. We drove to a port on the south side of the island where we met our big speed boat ... we boarded and made ourselves comfortable... the crew Kept us supplied with... beer, cola, Brugal rum and coke, fruit punch sprite etc...an open bar... 1st we were taken out to a sandbar in the middle of the ocean where we could get out walk around and hunt for star fish... we saw a few but we decided to leave them in the water unlike some people who were taking them out to have photos taken with them.... we then re boarded the boat to be taken to a favourite snorkelling place one of the crew took some bread for the fishes...there were many colourful fish that swam all around us i put my hand out to touch them and one nibbled my finger but it didnt hurt.... we then re boarded the boat again and made our way to Saona island... the beach was beautiful with hammocks and loungers... white sand and calm turquoise sea... the caribbean sea... in punta cana beach of our hotel that was the atlantic sea many more waves... this was a real contrast. We loafed on the beach... swam and had a lovely lobster meal...those that did not like lobster they had pork. We then loafed and swam some more with the open bar still open.Mitch bit by a fly:(On the way back we travelled on a catamarang we danced and loafed some more and sunbathed on the netting. One of the other holiday makers with us had a bit too much to drink and jumped off the catamarang... and in the coach on the way back to the hotels was continually shouting....eh eh roberto and trying to ask random questions in spanish (at least he was trying). A lovely relaxing trip... bit tame but lovely.

Some pretty beautiful beaches, although in my personal opinion, too many rocks when trying to swim, some sharp and others slippery which can cause an accident, but it is something natural and beautiful
