Classic hotel in the Lamorinda area. Rooms are large and comfortable. A sleepy hotel in the sense that the bar closes early and nothing nearby to do in the evenings. Also remember that this place is more expensive than the average hotel.

Gayle and I booked a room at the Lafayette Park Hotel for our Wedding Night. It's a gorgeous hotel and I thought that our room (with a not so romantic view of Highway 24 and the hills) was very nice. It was more like a suite and featured high ceilings and all sorts of room, comfort, and relaxation. I also enjoyed the sweeping central stairway that accents the Lobby of which coffee was available the next morning at the bottom.

My only complaint (again) is the service. I tried to get early check-in for the time between the Wedding Ceremony and the the Reception. I explained our situation and the staff person on the phone was perhaps a bit too "German" - efficient and somewhat cold. I was advised that the hotel wasn't full that night, but the best she could do was a explanatory note on the computer. After that conversation, Gayle and I decided to take a more direct route to our reception. This service model extended to the front desk staff. At one point, she interrupted a couple (getting married here the next day) who were congratulating us, because she immediately needed our credit card.

Disclaimer - I did not pay for my stay. I was here for a work thing and work paid.

But...on with my review.

The hotel is practically right next to HWY 24, so it's conveniently located off the freeway.

Parking is a PAIN. I pulled in around 7ish to check in after a VERY long day working, and there was ONE valet guy. After waiting for him to get 3 cars and park 2 more, when I pulled up, he asked if I wanted to valet or self park. Um, self park please.

Even though I'm in a rental car, I prefer not to valet. And since I'll be needing access to my car later the next day while we were having our meeting their all day, it would be more convenient to park my own car.

He let's me know that self park is in the underground garage to my right. Hey hotel - how about a sign saying valet this way self park that way so that I didn't have to wait for this poor lone soul manning the valet booth?

Once I got into the parking garage - stating that it's a garage of any kind is rather misleading. There aren't a lot of spaces available below. All I see is the cluster that will be tomorrow once everyone tries to leave AT THE SAME TIME from our meeting. This is going to be very interesting. Another reason I'm happy I self parked.

Once inside the hotel, it's quite beautiful but you can tell it's an older facility. The lady at the front desk was super nice. She handed me my room key and then another actual key. apparently this is for the mini bar.

My room is a standard King room with a sitting area that has a couch and coffee table. There is a separate desk and chair as well. Flat screen tv is sitting in an armoire. There were also two lovely bathrobes for my use in the room with a tag saying how much they are selling them for.

The decor is very much "old" style I guess you can say. The bed had a canopy from the wall.

So, since this mini bar wasn't one of those you touched you bought it sensored ones, I used the key to open the drawer and the door. Behind door #1 - there is a mini fridge that's clearly seen better days, but hey if it works....and you have it hidden behind a pretty wood cabinet door... inside the fridge there were a few sodas and beers and 2 Red Bulls. The drawer had a very limited selection of snacks. I guess no one really buys from the mini bar nowadays huh?

Unfortunately, my toilet was on the fritz when I got there. I called the front desk, they sent a maintenance guy up to fix it. He had to do some crazy stuff to get it fixed, called housekeeping as a precaution. Cleaned up like nothing happened and left which I was grateful for.

There is a spa and two restaurants on the property. I won't be able to use them, so I don't have an opinion.

If I wasn't here for work, I don't think I would come out of my way to stay at this hotel when there are so many other hotels not too far away that are cheaper and still the same quality, have more amenities or even better. Even with my work paying for me to be here, I probably would have chosen my usual hotels if I had a choice. At least there I'm a frequent guest, so there are certain things I get free like bottled water or snacks.
