What better incentive to get outdoors and go for a hike than hiking up to a tea house with lunch options, snacks, desserts, and other goodies waiting for you. This is one of the more popular hikes to do in the area and thus the downside is dealing with the crowds, especially during the summer. It's still a lovely hike though and great for families with younger children. This is a good half-day hike (3 to 4 hours return) and the starting point is at the parking lot of the Chateau Lake Louise.

Getting here is half the fun! It was a glorious Fall day when I took the loop from Lake Louise to Lake Agnes (and the Tea House), and onwards to the Plain-of-Six Glaciers (and another Tea House) and back down. I'm also a fast hiker (even at this altitude) and was back from this 8.5 mile hike well before the suggested days journey.

Lake Agnes was named in honour of Lady Agnes Macdonald, second wife of Canada 's first prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. Lady Agnes visited the small lake in 1886, and her words, "This is lovely!" still ring true today. Hikers are treated to a mixture of trail that begins in old-growth forest of spruce and fir before leading to an open view of the waters below (the magical blue of glacier-fed Lake Louise). Further up the trail, slightly less than one kilometre from the teahouse, Mirror Lake appears offering a nice view. The "Beehive" looms above and the waterfall from Lake Agnes is a nice photograph. The trail continues up the right side of the waterfall, and leads to the rustic and happily busy teahouse.

My hike was very enjoyable, drop dead gorgeous in many spots, and offered wonderful Tea House hospitality. The prices are a little higher, but considering what it takes to keep one of these seasonal places running, it's still a great value for the money. Don't forget your layers as weather conditions rapidly changed during my sojourn.

The chocolate cake and Lake Agnes berry tea were incredibly rewarding after hiking for approximately 6 hours. We came over from the other tea house and an excusion out to see the Death Trap pass so this was our last stop of the hike instead of our first. Loved the views and photo ops of Lake Agnes itself - gorgeous, reflecting lake that you could just sit and admire for hours. Staff at the tea house were very friendly and the vibe was happy and energetic. Neither tea house should be missed on a trip to Lake Louise!

Incredible experience. Like going back in time. You can only reach the tea house by horseback or hiking - I chose horseback.

Whilst this tea house is not as quaint as the Plain of Six Glaciers one it also has no electricity and supplies and hiked in and out. However its position on the lake is spectacular. Gluten free wraps and fillings are available.
