In the high season get here before 7am to get a parking spot. If not, you'll hve to take the free shuttle bus.

A very picturesque site near Lake Louise. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Very touristy but great views of the lake.

This is the best $20 view of the world and one of Canada's most iconic images. The Tower of Babel looks imposing but the short hike brings you away from crowds and the postcard views.

One of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen with water this blue and pristine! I have only seen others photos and postcards of this lake and finally I got the chance to see it with my own eyes! Amazing indeed!

Moraine Lake is a glacially-fed lake 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) outside the Village of Lake Louise. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6,183 feet. The lake (when full) reflects a distinct shade of blue. The colour is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis.

I've only been here in the fall and didn't find it too crowded and otherwise over loved. The Lodge itself was also more peaceful (and just before its early October seasonal closing) and is a nice place to stay, have a meal, or just relax a bit.

The area around the lake has several walking/hiking trails which are, from time to time, restricted because of grizzly bear activity. Parks Canada provides the updated trail conditions and/or restrictions. The easiest (and most common) tourist route is the Rockpile Trail along the actual moraine. It's short and easy and arguably provides the most photographed scene in Canada. That view of the mountains behind the lake in Valley of the Ten Peaks is known as the Twenty Dollar View, as Moraine Lake was featured on the reverse side of the 1969 and 1979 issues of the Canadian twenty dollar bill.

Beautiful lake with lots of hiking trails surrounding it. First attempt to visit, during labor day weekend, there was a lack of available parking. After waiting 45 minutes to no avail we decided to try to see the lake later in the week. If you go in late August or early September there are a lot of bear warnings on the trails and you need to hike in groups of 4 and carry bear spray. We visited later in the week after the holidays and enjoyed the view from the 'rockpile'. You need to navigate a bed of tree logs in the water and then climb the rocks in order to get a good looking photo with all majestic, iconic peaks in the background - not a simple task. Canoe and kayak rentals as well as cabins, bar, restaurant and gift shop all are available as well as restroom facilities that were very clean even with a busy crowd.

I did not spend a lot of time here but there are a number of hikes I would love to do that start from here. Apparently there is a shuttle which runs from Lake Louise town to Moraine Lake which is handy if you don't have a car!

If I were planning my wedding, I'd definitely consider the setting at Moraine Lake. Here, the lake is set like a turquoise jewel against a backdrop of soaring spires laced with glaciers and studded with fir and birch. There's a hiking trail and several spots to stop and take breathtaking photographs of a place nearly everyone has seen in pictures, but few know where it is. A MUST SEE when you are in the Banff-Jasper National Parks area!
