but the El Cortez is the longest continuously running.) They casino shows its age, with many of the slot machines still being operable by coins and paid out as such. It's a fun throwback. But what makes the El Cortez so cool is that it marries the classic vibe with modern updates. The rooms in the older part of the hotel are spacious and nice enough, but a few years ago, the El Cortez design the "Cabana Suites" which is a separate building (with security, important for downtown) witj colorfully renovated suites. It has a funky, hipster vibe, and is a great value for the location. You can check out all of the great new gourmet restaurants and hip bars in the Fremont East district which enjoying use of the pool at the Downtown Grand (with a hotel key and 2 drink minimum). Very fun and interesting place to stay!

One of the oldest hotels in Vegas, El Cortez is the perfect option for budget-minded travelers. It's also located in the downtown area, also known as Old Vegas. It's still a ton of fun without the massive price tag.

The famed El Cortez Hotel and Casino is more famous because of it's past ownership rather than it's current status. This was Las Vegas founder, Bugsy Siegal's hotel and casino, and the base for his operations to build a city in the middle of the desert. This hotel is a block or so from the historic pedestrian promenade, Fremont Street.

I have never stayed here, but once won a hefty some (in my world) at the blackjack table. El Cortez will forever be a 5-star place in my book.

First please allow me to qualify the five star rating. Did I give the El Cortez five stars because it is a world-class property with all mod cons? Not a chance but it is as old school Las Vegas as one can get, I mean two for one martinis at any casino bar from 5 to 7 PM every day. First built in 1941 and owned by Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel. Please note that I am not trying to glorify the past “mob” connection to the El Cortez, but if you want a taste of Las Vegas the way it was. Check out the El Cortez. Live it up, you are in Las Vegas for cryin’ out loud!

The atmosphere in the Hotel is cool. On my recent visit to the El Cortez I was with friends singing Karaoke in the Parlor Lounge where they serve up some good drinks. The staff there are very friendly, and its nice that the bartenders are pretty quick in taking your drink order. The Hotel is a bit on the small side, but it definitely makes it easy to find someone when you've strayed away from the bunch. The property is well kept, and all the staff throughout the casino are nice and helpful. One of the members noticed i was looking for something, and asked if they could help point me in the right direction which was perfect because I was looking for the restroom.

I had a good night singing karaoke, playing cheap slots, and hanging out in the downtown Vegas.

I did die and go to heaven at one of the few remaining lounge acts that defined and made Vegas great. The el Cortez has an intimate lounge, great drinks and an Elvis showman that had the depth and passion of The King. The show is followed by karaoke. Holy kitschy old school fun!!!

El Cortez, which was built in 1941, is a little piece of Las Vegas history. It is the longest-running hotel and casino in the city and, due to its off-Strip location, is popular among the locals who would gladly trade the glitz and glam of more modern accommodations for this hotel's unique vibe (and cheaper prices!).
