Best burger in town. They don't take reservations and are almost always packed so expect a wait.

A favorite with locals and visitors, the Ale House has got your American food fix. They have a great selection of beer and have one of the largest beer can collections on display! This is a great place to go to when you wanna catch the game. Just be warned-- it is almost always packed. The wait isn't usually TOO long, but they don't take reservations. Try out Pint Night every Thursday night. They feature a beer at a special pint price, and you get a free glass too! Their food isn't anything to boast about, but it's still pretty good. Whatever you get, I recommend their beer battered fries. Delicious!!

Gayle and I came down here for Lunch today. The place was busy as Brew Pub meets Family Restaurant. The Sunday breakfast buffet was finishing up in the other room, folks and their doggies were hanging out on the front patio on this glorious day, while we were among a happy group of multi-generational customers inside. Gayle adds the opinion that even though there were a lot of people here, the high ceilings and the large space were welcoming and friendly, as opposed to being cramped or overwhelming.

I ordered the Fish and Chips, along with a pint of Pliny the Elder (Russian River Brewing). Gayle went for a Turkey Club Sandwich and an Anderson Valley Brewing Oatmeal Stout. The Club was a bit disappointing as it lacked the traditional inner bread layer and that it tasted rather bland. The fish was much better, as the batter had the right combination or crunch and fresh. The steak fries were a nice compliment, with the only thing missing being some fresh cole slaw. As usual, the Pliny the Elder IPA was outstanding and easily overshadowed the the Stout.

It was also a pleasant surprise to experience this part of Downtown Livermore. Gayle tells me that this area has grown up quite a bit since she was last here years ago. Our Lunch was also a nice jumping off point towards an afternoon of wine tasting. However, as much as I love beer and would love to return here, another Livermore Valley trip will probably start more directly at the Winery with a picnic lunch or at an on-site eatery.
