Somerset House is a new kind of arts centre in the heart of London, designed for today’s audiences and creatives.

Offering a diverse and dynamic public programme of contemporary arts and culture, we are also a home to a large community of creative businesses, artists and makers, including Somerset House Studios. One of the city’s most spectacular and well-loved spaces, we are a place where art and culture is imagined, made and experienced by our 3 million visitors every year.

We attended an art exhibit. The exhibit lacks the maturity of other galleries.

This beautiful neo-classic structure built between the 'Strand' and the 'Thames is home to the Courtauld Gallery, and the ice skating ring on its courtyard during winter months. The house holds a substantial collection of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings.

Found this place entirely by coincidence, but there was no special event being held outside at the time; it was just really cold. With not much space inside and rather just lots of rooms, it can get quite crowded if there is an event on (which is why I came here). Regardless, it still shows some great architecture and design of what you'd expect in London.

The Somerset House offers a lot of different things to see and do as it is a major arts and culture centre. We took in the World Photography Awards exhibit.

One benefit to being in London or Europe for that matter, is how they can take a building that's a couple hundred years old and still use it for contemporary events. Somerset House is a prime example. It's a cultural and arts center that features events throughout the year. For instance, outdoor film screenings are shown during the summer. In September of 2013, Somerset House was the main location for London Fashion Week and showcased the work of Ferran Adrian's culinary masterpieces at El Bulli.

In the summer go for the outdoor fountains which kids love to run and play. Live music. In the winter there is a lovely ice skating rink. Super Christmassy. Always interesting exhibitions. Nice cafe and often great pop up restaurants by top chefs.

Somerset House is beautiful. It is so spectacular ! Find out a little bit about her history. What a wonderful building.

I particularly like the ice skating events which take place every winter. It is romantic and blissful. You must skate at Somerset House.

The building is lit up at night and sometimes they have concerts out the front of the building.

Not to mention all the art and exhibition she houses!

The Brazilian Olympic Committee took over Somerset House during the '12 Olympics and set up "Casa Brasil" to showcase the next Games, '16 Rio. Live music (samba, of course), fans of all countries welcome, fun atmosphere.

Once we had landed late in the afternoon and, after taking a train, we soon went to Sommerset House, as we had half an hour booked with a group of friends. Wow! I did really enjoy this experience...skating on ice in this beautiful location, together with a lot of people, just looking at the beautiful buildings all around.

Best outdoor ice skating rink in London. DJed music, beautiful holiday decorations, and a stunning backdrop. After all, this is where London Fashion Week is headquartered - the setting is gorgeous. Get tickets to the nighttime skating events early - they sell out.

Started to be built by the Duke of Somerset in 1547, and completed in 1553, the Tudor style courtyard mansion had been the residence of many prominent England aristocrats and royals. And for more than 200 years had stood as a silent witness of the rise and fall of English Monarchy. The old building was demolished in 1775 as a new one was built around it.
Nowadays, the Somerset House has become a Creative Hub, under the management to the Somerset House Trust. The courtyard has been a host of various Art and Fashion installments, Music Concerts, Ice Rink and recently during the London Olympic 2012, Casa do Brazil (The Brazillian House - Photographed here). Inside they have restaurant, bar, deli and shops as well as historical displays telling stories about the sites. The River Terrace which was just had been restored and open to public in the year 2000 has Cafes during Summer.
When you take a stroll on the massive courtyard, just imagine 17th century London when lavish parties were organised there, and you would definitely get the feeling of it :)

A lovely oasis in the heart of London. Just sitting outside with a coffee is a treat (if it's not raining) and there's often inspiring art to see.

This is a lovely museum to visit, and they have quite a nice collection of Impressionist Art in the Courtauld Gallery. It's free on Monday, and other days only 6 pounds. Its worth it. They also host events in the large courtyard area - ice sking in winter, movies in the summertime.
