The hotel is beautiful and look like you were in 1920's film. They are remaking the hotel, to look new and fresh. The hotel manager was such a sweetheart!

Definitely lives up to it's name, preserving the glamour of old Hollywood. The architecture, deep red hues in the decor and the posters of celebrities from the era line the walls. It's really charming, full of natural light and right near Paramount Studios on Melrose. The rooms are really spacious and I love that the art deco design was preserved. As of Feb. 2016 they'll be opening a restaurant next door. Osteria la Buca is up the street for really great affordable Italian food and it's really close to Hollywood, Sunset and about a 15 minute drive to Beverly Hills. There's an independent hair salon right next door which I didn't check out but it looked really hip and would be super convenient. Really luxurious feel without being tacky or ostentatious. I really enjoyed the design.

This historic red brick building stretching a block on the seedier side of Melrose straddles a thin line between vintage and old. The restored property is eye-catching with a facade straight out of the Silent Movie Era from which it was built for talent working at nearby Paramount Studios. The interior doesn't far as well. Everything looks needlessly overdone (lavish gold trimmings, ornate furniture). It feels kitschy, but comes off as trying to be classy and instead looks cheap. The creepy black-and- white movie star pictures (many of whom rest in Hollywood Forever Cemetery) on the blood red (okay, crimson) walls are a nice touch as are the haunting hallways. The basic rooms all facing the Hollywood Sign, retain their original bathtubs, sinks and windows, while the modern improvements are minimal (flat beds, weak wi-fi), but there is free parking in back.

What a magical hotel! The minute you walk inside you feel like you're stepping back in time. You can walk to Paramount Studios from the hotel, but you'll have to drive if you want to get to other Hollywood tourist spots. The staff is helpful and friendly and parking is free! Overall, a great hotel if you want a taste of old Hollywood!

The name says it all-- as soon as you walk in you get a feel for old Hollywood. The building has lots of character as do the rooms. For the same price as other chain-hotels, this is a great deal. Each room comes equipped with an ironing board, blow dryer, refrigerator and coffee maker so you can make yourself right at home. You also get a free parking spot in their lot out back, which in LA is a definite plus! The location isn't ideal, but you're still not too far from the heart of Hollywood or Silvrlake/Echo Park.

Even before you walk inside this hotel, you get a sense for its history. The sign outside states that it was built in 1927, and the architecture is impressive, so much so that’s on the National Register. What’s even cooler is that it used to be the go-to hotel for folks visiting Paramount Pictures, just down the street. Unfortunately, they didn’t keep great records to know exactly who stayed there and when. History aside, it’s a great find in terms of being a clean and safe budget hotel. The rates vary by the season, but they are incredibly low for what you get. Plus, WiFi and parking are included. You’ll have to drive or take public trans to get into the heart of Hollywood, but if you’re looking for a nice Italian meal within walking distance, check out Osteria La Buca.
