once a hostel, and the rooms are still quite small, but most of the clientele could care less. Popular primarily with a younger and more international demographic, the people who stay here didn’t choose it for the thread-count of the sheets. There’s no pool or fitness center either, though there are Thai massage services onsite, as well as a hair salon. Really, though it’s all about location, since most visitors are only in their rooms to sleep. All 32 guest rooms do have their own private bathroom, along with small work desks and free WiFi. If a balcony is important to you, I suggest choosing a queen room (many of them have one)—they come with a sleeper sofa, too.

A boutique hotel with rock-star attitude, this hideaway is on the corner of Melrose Ave's shopping district, near Fairfax Ave (so Canter's 24-hour deli & bakery is just a few blocks' walk away!). Love the edgy decor and arty touches, like clothes hangers hung on a stepladder, a recycled denim-jeans shopping bag to borrow, and a mini-bar full of snacks that were actually tempting (like the Dean & Deluca chocolate).

But I wouldn't pay to stay here again, because they just haven't gotten their act together yet. There's not enough self-parking for all guests, and no valet available, and little on-street overnight parking nearby. The front-desk staff tried to hurry my check-out, and the rooms are far from sound-proof, plus they have no individual temperature controls (be prepared to sweat or freeze at night), no land-line telephone and only closet-sized bathrooms.

The atmosphere was non-existent. The front desk is part of the lounge/bar. It's a strange set up. Even worse you can hear every word everyone in their rooms is saying. Hipster Hell!

Not to be confused with its more upscale sister property, PaliHouse, the PaliHotel is a trendy reworking of an old youth hostel – and you can feel it in the rooms which are all a tight 270 square feet. As you enter, a big light-up arrow points the way to the front lobby past a tiny appointment-only salon. The rooms are slightly dark, with a restful teal tone, and a rustic ladder and wicker basket double as the closet. Most have single queen beds. Need a room with separate beds? They’re gonna be two twins. But if you don’t mind cramped quarters, the place is funky-cool, with a retro-euro-meets-rustic-hunting-lodge-and-country-cabin feel. Centrally positioned on Melrose and two blocks from Fairfax, the location and decent price outweigh the spacial drawbacks.

Casual chic and flea market paintings behind the registration desk set the fun and funky feel at this boutique hotel with hip furnishings from the lobby seating to the rooms. The hotel calls it “urban creative,” which fits the halls lined in recycled barnwood and bookish theme. Rooms have queen bed (or singles), velvety loveseats or pull-out sofas in rich shades of teal. After a rain shower-head, eco-friendly toiletries and plush robe, nibble on Dean and Deluca snacks for a treat. Ikea-like desks work well for the free WiFi, but I’m not sure about the clever but small open closets. This is for the hip and young and international travelers seeking something different. Located on bustling Melrose—walk in one direction to find Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood, in the other for the famed Groundlings comedy troupe, as well as plenty of shops and great eating options. The PaliKitchen’s pastries and barista café turns into a wine and beer bar at night, with a full food menu coming soon. It’s centrally located to Hollywood attractions and Beverly Hills. There’s no phone in the room (does anything need it?) but the desk offer cells to guests on request. Self parking is first-come-first serve. Thai massage and a blow-out hair salon offered on the premises are cool perks.

The Pali Hotel is a very interesting low key kind of a place. It's in a location in West Hollywood, Los Angeles that is close to many attractions, restaurants and shopping.
One interesting feature is that the rooms do not have telephones, I guess it's because most people have their own, if you don't have a cell phone, you are able to check out from the front desk.
The rooms and the hotel itself has an interesting decor, kind of hip and either trying too hard to be hip or not at all - I could not decide - but please don't let that stop you from staying here. I found it interesting and very, very different to say the least. It's a small boutique hotel that is different from the others - almost refreshing in a way.
I liked the staff and found them to be very helpful.
If you are looking for a new adventure then you will not be disappointed.
