Centrally located with overhead bridge access to the World Trade Center Building, the LA Hotel is the Hyatt Regency renamed but apparently still under the same ownership. I haven't stayed here but as a conference site it has Multiple conference rooms and is close to the freeways. On the other hand it has inadequate parking and this time the escalators didn’t work.

Heading here for an event is like going away from home and seeing the beautiful designs of hotel lobbys. It's all about the lights. Pretty designs and nice looks.

The location is this hotels best asset. Got stuck in the elevator for a few minutes, no water in the room and room service took forever

Catering to the button-up business traveller, this Financial District high-rise looks like the set of a Michael Mann movie (Heat, Collateral). A full-scale renovation has given the former Marriott an upscale OR stuffy, modern look, depending on how you feel about marble floors and monochromatic (everything). The spacious, shopping mall-like lobby includes a bar/restaurant that’s prime real estate for breaking bread or brokering deals. The rooms are nice, if not OMG-worthy, except for the floor-to-ceiling windows that offer cinematic skyline views. There’s a 24-hour gym, a T-shaped wading pool and a full-scale business center, but no complementary wi-fi or parking (valet is $35). The centralized location is perfect for exploring DTLA, starting with the newly-opened Broad Museum (which is within walking distance), just make reservations beforehand.

I stayed for 3 nights as I had a work event at the Los Angeles Convention Center (which was 3 mins away from the hotel by car)

They're almost done with remodeling but the hotel lobby already looked stunning. Glass hanging flower type decorations formed a wave over the concierge area and the overall lobby had a modern and slightly eastern feel. Very classy.

My room was spacious and had a king sized bed. The comforter was down, so if you're allergic, then call ahead. As for me, I like "heavy" blankets so the down blanket was too light for me.

Water pressure wasn't strong enough for me either. And their phone didn't have any labels at all in terms of what buttons go to which department.

Breakfast is usual hotel fare, where you can choose to have all-you-can-eat or entrees. We opted for entrees as we didn't have much time and got the Belgium Waffle and the mixed plate. Both were decent but averages to about $20 per person after tip if you get a drink as well.

I docked stars because of parking and their rules. My coworker had a guest that arrived at 11:30 pm and was still charged for that night's valet. It's $35 a night! In addition they didn't remind him that he, himself, had valet comped due to our company room block so he was double-charged.

Overall, a beautiful hotel but parking and some amenities are just OK. If your work is comping you to stay, then by all means it's a great hotel but I wouldn't pay for it myself.

Not to be confused with the J.W. Marriott close to the Staple Center downtown, this Marriot has a deluxe feel though dated from a time when downtown real estate was plentiful with a big porte cochere entrance and spacious lobby. Located in the financial district, this place caters to business clientele so weekends are more availabe. The entire space is about to undergo a major overhaul and ownership switch. As the renovation happens over the next several months, great deals could be had, though some construction may have to be dealt with - they should avoid floors with construction. The name will be changed to the L.A. Hotel for a while before it becomes a Hyatt according to the desk staff. The rooms look great though the new look, as seen on display in the lobby, will be much more contemporary. The lobby boasts a breakfast area and bar, though the configuration will change during the makeover. The immense mural will likely vanish but hopefully the large pool area will keep its appeal despite the freeway close by.

I think that one of the things that I liked so much about walking into the lobby of this Marriott is that it was last designed in the late 60's early 70's and is sort of frozen in time. The place is immaculately kept and everything though dated is in terrific shape. I can easily see that in it's hey day it was probably considered very glamorous. The lobby has a Hertz rent a car station as well as a restaurant and gift shop. There is also an exterior pool that is very 60's which I really loved. Their fitness center is open 24 hours a day.

The location is good if you don't mind walking a bit. It's located near some very nice restaurants and to be fair you have easy access to the metro and taxis if you don't feel like walking so it's easy to get around for entertainment. It is also very centrally located to the Pacific Stock Exchange as well as the financial district.

The rooms too are sort of retro, but again all is in very good shape and you can enjoy some fair to excellent views of the city. Wifi is available for $9.95 for 24 hours.

This august they will begin a major remodel to bring the place up to date. So hurry if you want to experience the retro feel that is sort of unique in downtown.

The rooms were big, the windows HUGE (yay!), and the hotel a city unto itself. Between the on-site restaurants/food court and the little plaza across the way, we ate delicious, relatively cheap meals the whole weekend.
