This is right in the thick of things on the Venice boardwalk and a little too sparse for my taste. As of November 2015, when I visited, there was construction going on and given the fact that there isn't a lobby or central area, it just felt really small and hard to navigate around the construction workers. The rooms are outfitted with full kitchens (stove, plates, glasses, etc..) which is useful but they're quite small, more for heating up food than cooking it. laundry on site and complimentary wifi is a plus but overall I didn't find it very inviting and the location is way too busy for my taste. Definitely not for families.

Hidden in plain sight in-between strung-up tourist T-shirts and sunglass displays is the entrance to this boardwalk place. The family-owned hotel is a Venice Beach fixture, offering budget prices and low-key accommodations that focus more on leisure (free beach chairs, towels, toys) than four-star luxury. The comfy rooms have kitchenettes and basic features (ceiling fans - no AC), while the nicer suites offer exposed brick, hardwood floors, and Facebook update-worthy ocean views. Don’t believe me? Check out their website’s live webcam from the rooftop, where they also do complimentary happy hour on Fridays and Saturdays. Muscle Beach, the skateboard park and eclectic vendors are just outside your door, but this “lively” block is not for everybody (read: small children). You will have to find paid parking lots nearby ($20-$30 a day) because there is no on-site parking.

In the heart of the Venice Beach boardwalk this spot is a little too close to where the magic mushrooms happen for my taste. It’s not what I recommend for a family to stay, but for more bohemian folks it is perfect, and central to the Venice excitement. The front entrance gets lost amongst the sunglasses and jewelry that line the surrounding shops. Just steps from the door are street vendors, tarot readers, boisterous locals, and bums. Towards the beach is the famous skateboard park, where tourists stop to watch the kids do professional-quality stunts. The hotel’s building has been around since 1908, with a storied past. The hallways are narrow, and the elevator is such an antique I wasn’t sure I wanted to ride in it. But we arrived safely to the upper floors to find small but charming rooms with exposed brick walls and many with views of the water. In the lobby, beach equipment is available to borrow free of charge.

Venice Beach has been called a “human carnival” and a “freak show,” and this hotel embodies that spirit. It’s a great spot for backpackers, Bohemians and international visitors who really want up-close-and-personal interactions with the wildness. Literally, you walk out the front door into the thick of it. Except for very liberal families, I’d advise against it for kids. But it is a whole lot of fun, especially if it’s your first time in Venice.

The rooms are small but nice, many with hardwood floors and exposed bricks. WiFi is free, and beach equipment can be borrowed from the lobby. There are heaters in the room, but no A/C (only ceiling fans and windows that do open), though you rarely need one here. Parking is not available directly through the hotel, but nearby lots can accommodate guests. Plan to book one month in advance for summer.

This place is a great find. It's located right on the boardwalk in Venice Beach. So you walk out of the front door onto the sand and all the street vendors. The rooms are huge and are apartment like. Small kitchen and all the needs for you to stay there for a night or a week. All the rooms are modernized with cool furniture and art, and this is juxtaposed to being in an old classic building that's been in Venice forever. If you don't mind being in the heart of Venice and not being at a 5 star resort, then this is a great find.
