My favorite sushi in LA. I go to the dtla location as I live in work in the area. Always fresh and service is always professional, cheerful and quick. Can never go wrong with the any of the Trust Me menus. Everything comes out as it is prepared. Definitely a go to for that melt in your mouth sushi craving.

Sushi was okay. Temari sushi looks cute but they are small, and expensive way over priced. Im eating the leftover food from sugar fish while im writing this review and the food is not as good as the time i picked it. But the service was good tho, will be back when im in the area.

Pretty surprised that Sugarfish is rated so highly. There's always a line before the place even opens. They have 3 different "sets", mediocre fish quality, and high prices. If you're indifferent about sushi and think that most places taste the same, go ahead and check this place out. If not, I'd recommend checking out other well-known Japanese restaurants if you're feeling sushi, because Sugarfish won't cut it.

Very limited choice of sushi.no cooked items whatsoever which makes this place very child unfriendly. Families with children will have a problem with the menu.

Great spot for date night. Very reasonably priced too. The only bad thing is they don't take reservations.

This place has pretty good food with the exception of a high price. It's a good place for a date but not for an everyday meal. Make sure to make a reservation if you want to have dinner here

The food here is pretty good, but it's a little on the pricey side. Great date spot though.

I've been to this location a few times now for dinner, as well as their other location in Studio City for lunch. I hear they have opened up a new location in Pasadena, that I have yet to try it. As for the Downtown Los Angeles location, they don't take reservations, so you have to come early if you don't want to wait. The decor is dim light and minimalistic. Their menu is pretty simple, and I usually order the "trust me" prefix. Their sushi is good and their rice is fantastic, perfectly warm with the right amount of texture. I'd have to say my favorite dishes there would be the blue crab hand roll and the toro sashimi. I may have to go try the new opening at Pasadena, since that location is closer for me.

The Trust Me's are the best. Depending on how hungry you are, choose the size you want and trust them.
Best sushi outside of little tokyo.

I was craving sushi during my entire pregnancy and had to resist! So once I got that baby out of me, this was the first sushi meal I ate! (Not immediately right after of course). HAH! So obviously this place is really good. The rice they use to make their sushi is like crack. It's cooked to perfection and so warm and soft, it melts in your mouth along with the fish. My fave is the blue crab hand roll! SOOOO delicious! I've been here about three times now, and haven't been disappointed. I would give it 5 stars, except I recently found out their fish isn't that fresh, like some other upscale sushi places. I heard this place actually freezes their fish.

My favorite sushi restaurant in LA. Every location is incredible. Come early as the line gets long and get the "trust me"! The rice is as soft as butter. You can't go wrong with sushi here!

You have to remember that 3/5 stars isn't bad it's actually A-OK
Sugar fish definitely isnt 5 stars (as good as it gets)

Let's start with parking. They have a parking lot on grand between 7th and 8th where bums will ask for money (DTLA this is common, I usually just give them a dollar but our Canadian friend actually believe their story and gave them 5) parking is 4 dollars with validation on a Tuesday Night

Things to note.
You can't ask for any extra sauce other than soy sauce and wasabi (GIVE ME MY GOD DAMN YUZU DAMNIT)
Rice is warm
Tax and Tip is included no matter the party size.
Servers are pretty quick to respond (it is a small restaurant) Friendly too.

They have a "Trust Me" Option 20, 30,40 $ A group of 4 all got the 40$ option. Bill was 200 flat. This is basically "omakase" or "Chef's Choice"

Edamame was a bit too salty for me, but salt gets addicting. ;P
You can tell some of the nigiri had Yuzu, Some had Ponzu with ligh wasabi. It's up to the chef to choose what comes with what. I just really like Yuzu.

This restaurant is a bit more upscale but very trendy. The fish is very fresh. And their tuna tastes way better than what any of the other restaurants are serving. I like their take out boxes and although it seems little, it is very filling actually.

Melt in your mouth sushi! My gf and I both got the "TRUST ME" combo which had a couple hand rolls and 4 types of sushi fish and edamame. The fish is so fresh and yummy. The rice (which I'm rarely a fan of for sushi) even wowed me. I can't wait to be back!

The food here is mindblowinggg! I had the Nozawa prefixed menu and I must say, I have never eaten such fresh sushi before! Each bite literally melted in my mouth. It tastes like they just caught the fish straight from the Japan ports.

Great sushi restaurant/bar. The price is a bit steep but worth it.

Mmm I would take out a loan to eat here. Sugarfish isn't for the light of wallets, but the overall dining experience is second to none.

Sugarfish prides itself on quality, and that's the factor that sets them apart from any other. Not just the quality of fish, but the rice is also like no other. The rice is savoury, and vinegar heavy, warm and compliments the fish. The Nozawa that we ordered started with edamame, then was served in 3 sets of 2 pieces each, then hand rolls. I believe it is served this was so you experience the items at it's freshest.

Small and dim lit dining area, dark decor, cool feature wall, high industrial ceiling. There aren't too many seats so the wait can get lengthy. Most of the 2 seater tables are quite crammed together so you are forced to listen to other peoples conversations or forcing others to listen to yours. The menu is simple, there's only three omakase which all differ in size, or a handful of individual sushi to choose from. The iced green tea was really yummy as well, if you like your green tea potent.

Sugarfish just took the spot of my favourite Japanese restaurant, hands down.

Finally got to try the famous sushi place during dinela!

::For $35 I got the following::
-edamame
-Tuna sashimi with ponzi: was delicious
- salmon and albacore sushi: salmon wasn't memorable but the albacore was amaaaazing.
- halibut, scallop and yellowtail sushi: scallop had a unique citrus and subtle spiciness to it, which I loved.
- Toro and blue crab handrails - felt like fillers

We also tried albacore belly but it wasn't as amazing as the regular one.

Overall it was delicious, but not something I'll go crazy over.

This place serves by far the best Sushi/Sashimi I have ever had. And I thought I've had good sushi, but this proved to me that there are better sushi out there. I ordered their Trust Me Combo. It came with Edamame (peas), Tuna Sashimi, Albacore Sushi, Salmon Sushi, Yellowtail Sushi, Toro Hand Roll, and a blue crab hand roll. They were all really really good. How did I differentiate this quality over the other ones? The sashimi basically melts in your mouth!! I literally didn't even have to chew. Just swish it around in your mouth and it melts away. And the sauce/flavoring that they used complimented it perfectly!

Service was great. The waitress even joked around with us, which was fun. Definitely a place to take someone on a date! Pretty dim and romantic environment. They have a valet in front, or just go park on the street if you can find meter parking, usually free after 8pm. Before that, it is 3 bucks an hour. They have multiple restaurants throughout LA, and i heard they just opened another one 4 weeks ago. So go check them out if you haven't already!
