Great service with lots of delicious meats to choose from. Tacos are literally huge and filled with lots and lots of meat. You can get extra tortillas to make more tacos cause there's so much meat. Cash only unless you pay the 50 cent charge for credit or debit.

Located in Grand Central Market. If you want some bang for your buck, this is definitely the place. For 3 bucks, you get one huge taco. Forget those dollar taco food trucks! This is the place you must go to! They load you up! You can actually get full off of one taco. And they charge no tax on food! Woohoo!

Get their lengua taco. Yummmm.

Located in The Grand Central Market against the wall, this stand looks like your typical Mexican place. But the carne asada taco(s) are tender, flavorful, and generous, and overall delicious.

One taco is $3. But one taco really gives you enough ingredients to make 3 tacos because you get 2 extra tortillas and huge scoops of meat. So really, it's 3 tacos for $3 which is an amazing deal.

The service was efficient and friendly. I would definitely come back to this stand next time I'm at Grand Central!

Great authentic tacos for $3 a piece. Even though it's one taco, they give you enough meat and tortillas for 3 tacos!

After circling around the Grand Central Market several times, I noticed that there were at least four taco vendors within 200 feet of each other. All of them had similar menus consisting of $3 tacos, $7 tortas, and $2 concentrated Ole horchata. Every stall carried a large meat selection (different cuts of beef, pork, chicken, goat) to be added inside the tacos and tortas. There was more than the ordinary variety of meats sold at taco trucks or quick serve Mexican restaurants.

We picked Tacos Tumbras a Tomas randomly without consulting Yelp, and by luck, it ended up being a solid choice. The taco men behind the counter all spoke perfect English so it was easy to ask questions and order.

I ordered the birria taco and also tried the lengua taco. As most Yelpers have already mentioned, the $3 taco isn't your typical midnight street taco wrapped in a speck of meat that relies on salsa to add flavor. At Tumbras a Tomas, thin double corn tortillas are folded around spoonfuls of meat, so much that it overflows. That is why a fork is supplied with two extra pieces of tortilla given on the side, just in case customers want to use the spilled meat to assemble another taco.

Pieces of the cooked lengua were only sliced into thin sections after each order. The lengua was meaty and flavorful (strong garlic taste) even without the application of salsa. Its melt-in-mouth tenderness and juiciness leads me to believe that the meat had been slow-simmered for hours. Squeezing lemon juice into the meat put this taco over the top.

On the other hand, I thought that the birria was just average, with meat served in larger than expected chunks. The goat meat did not tear apart easily, and it seemed to have an unpleasant overcooked dry texture. The birria would have tasted better if the meat were simmered or slow cooked in a pot with spices to make the meat more succulent and flavorful, instead of being reheated in a steam tray with some gravy for days.

The tortillas at Tumbras aren't homemade, they're supermarket quality, so there's no corn aroma in the background. But for the amount of meat given and $3 price tag, it's hard to nitpick about the small details. This is a quantity over quality type of place, where 2 tacos with semi-exotic meats (equivalent to about 6 street tacos) can be enough to stuff even a fat guy like me. If you're only going to have one taco, I would highly recommend the juicy and well-spiced lengua taco.
