Description
Plan for a full day of food, fun, and shopping when you visit Downtown Los Angeles. You can leave your car behind and take advantage of a wide variety of public transit options, including six commuter ... Read more
lines, two subways, three light rail lines, and an intertwining system of buses. Head northeast and check out Los Angeles Union Station, the main railway station in the city. In the surrounding area, you will find a variety of shops and museums, as well as historical sites, like the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Northwest of the station, Chinatown offers you even more variety, with a selection of restaurants, shops, and galleries. Southwest of the station, Little Tokyo hosts an open-air shopping area, restaurants, and several Buddhist temples. West, to Bunker Hill, brings you into the art center of Downtown Los Angeles. Enjoy a performance at one of the many theaters, and then take a guided tour of the neighborhood. There are so many things to do in "DTLA", you can spend several days there, but don’t forget the nights. Downtown Los Angeles is also home to myriad nightclubs, where you can unwind after a long day of culture and shopping.

DTLA welcomes everyone. She cannot be understood in one encounter. She needs to be frequented. I recommend starting with a lavish evening at a musical/play/symphony after dining at a 5* bistro while admiring passers-by! The ever-changing colors of the fountain below the illuminated City Hall are awe inspiring. And we can't forget the free dance/DJ/band every Fri night in Grand Park for a few months each Summer/Fall!

Downtown Los Angeles is really being built up beautifully. It’s a great nightlife.

Kinda have to know where to go to find good spots, and is a bit close to skid row, with a lot of one-way streets and overpriced parking... But aside from all that, if you know where you're going and are prepared, still a fun and diverse place to visit!

Downtown has gotten to be a pretty exciting place especially if you want to explore the nightlife. You can go to the movies eat and dance the night away.

We've been to LA three times, and haven't spent much time in DTLA, but you can always find something to do here, and there are a lot of great restaurants, too.

It's interesting! You need to be mindful of where you are and where you're going. Certain areas clearly seem better than others. I was out exploring, got lost for 20 minutes but didn't panic, just enjoyed the scenery and eventually found my way back to my hotel.

There is no vibe on the planet like downtown LA. Walking around the streets you are disappointed or in awe. Tons of great restaurants and nightclubs along with some memorable characters. I'd bring a friend at night though. Definitely worth getting into a high rise to check out the stunning view. Dreams are made here.

Downtown LA has changed dramatically in the last decade. Some things however have always been a big draw. One of these is Chinatown. Eateries abound that still feel as authentic as one would find on the other side of the world. Saunter down a side street and make your own discovery. Another international infusion unique to the downtown experience is wholesale shopping. Wholesale clothing on Santee Street and at the California mart (on sample day) has been a favorite go-to area of mine for over 30 years. Other wholesale 'marts' include flowers, fruits, fabrics, furniture, toys and more. If you have specific purchases to make for special events or projects—pinpoint your preferences and map out a plan in advance— go down there for one day and save a bundle!!!

HIGH ENERGY. Great Dining!!!
While in Downtown visit these wholesale places, The Jewelry district, Clothing district aka Santee Alley, My personal hang out, the fabric district which I frequent for my Design jobs and last but not least the Flower distrit for those of you that don't have the climates to grow gorgeous flowers.
Home to USC, the Fashion Design school and Hipsters
LA Mart for Designers
Many clubs and Foodie restaurants. The Edison and Bastille are a must!! Forget the scary exterior's. The Edison is like walkimg into The Great Gatsby
20 minute drive to beaches, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Melrose.

Downtown languished as the downtrodden step-child of the city for a hundred years, but that has all changed! Downtown is where it's happening - the art scene, food scene, entertainment. Not to be missed!

Despite the large population of homeless people and trash in downtown LA, there's also an abundant amount of amazing restaurants, entertainment and events.
