development in the Hollywood Hills. It was meant to be a short-term installation, but quickly gained international recognition as the film industry took off. The sign’s uneven layout and stark white lettering have spawned imitations the world over, from Serbia to New Zealand to Indonesia. The city of Los Angeles proved its dedication to the sign in 2010 when a successful city-wide campaign was launched to save the sign and surrounding land from an ambitious developer.

A few cool trails to choose from to get up there. Great views and a great photo opp are worth the workout. Take plenty of water tho, gets pretty warm on the ascent. Selfie sticks recommended.

The three routes below, the Mt Hollywood Trail, the Canyon Drive Trail, and the Cahuenga Peak Trail, offer choices for intrepid seekers, stragglers, dreamers, beginners, children, and the moderately well-conditioned.

Authorized hiking trails are open the same hours as Griffith Park, from Sunrise to Sunset, 365 days a year. While enjoying hiking, please stay on authorized trails.

Please beware of the extreme fire danger on the trails, parts of which are still recovering after a devastating wildfire in 2007. Trespassing is illegal. A LAPD officer is stationed near the Sign, which is protected by a fence and security cameras 24 hours a day. Thank you.

If your a new visitor to Los Angeles, you just have to do the Hollywood Sign. Although you might end up finding out it's a little overrated. But do it for the gram!

The hike is not terribly difficult but not too easy. It took us a bit to figure out where to go. Make sure to a water bottle and know where you're going because you will most likely have no cellphone service if you get lost. This may be obvious to some but, FYI, so you aren't disappointed, people aren't allowed to go up to the actual sign.

Fun if you love hiking. Don't go all the way to the top and you can take a picture from below. Not all cell phones work in this area so know where you are going before you go.

If you came to Hollywood and didnt take this photo that means you aren't here. Even it is quite small and far, I made it.

It's just a sign on the side of a hill. It's no Eiffel Tower, it's not the Statue of Liberty: It's a sign.

The Hollywood sign trail is a fun experience while in LA. It's an easy hike and there are trail markers telling which way to go. Parking IS a challenge so be prepared to park ~20min from the trailhead as it is in a residential area. The paths are well maintained and offer gorgeous views of DTLA. Trails connect to let you wander in front of the sign, above it, or over to the Griffith Observatory.

Erected in 1923, this symbolic landmark on Mount Lee is often viewed from Griffith Park Observatory.

I get that it is iconic but there is nothing to see really. You can't get up to it so your best bet is to go to a nearby hill for a good view. Its a photo opportunity but that is it.

Along with Hollywood and Disneyland, almost every visitor wants to see the Hollywood Sign. There are lots of places for viewing - the Hollywood Highland Center and Beachwood are two classic locations. I prefer the overlook of Lake Hollywood. The area is nicer and you're as close as you can get without hiking.

If you've got a car head out to the Hollywood Hills to see the Hollywood sign. It's probably the most photographed spot in LA.

Visible from a lot of places in northern LA/Hollywood, you can't go to LA without finding a good place to get the almost mandatory picture of the Hollywood sign showing that you were here. A Great place to view it is from Griffith Observatory.
