There is so much to learn at The Geffen Contemporary at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), for both teens as well as adults. While students can expand their creative thinking skills, adults can ... Read more
expand their expertise on contemporary art through MOCA's diverse educational program offerings. The Museum is located adjacent to the Omni Hotel California and the Walt Disney Theatre and features the works of Joan Miro, Jackson Pollack to name a few contemporary masters. Visitors are advised to book in advance as the shows are usually sold out particularly during weekends. Although there are many museums, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA is great for the mind and soul.

Matthew Barney's River of Fundament exhibit was here when we went to The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. The building (a former police car warehouse in LA's Little Tokyo district which was renovated by Frank Gehry) is pretty cool. I just wasn't the biggest fan of Barney's exhibit.

A little bit of edgy, contemporary culture. Maybe nothing says "Los Angeles" better.

If you are visiting to take in some art you will definitely want to visit this amazing museum in Downtown LA. Easily accessible by metro rail or a 15 minute drive from our home.

So much awesomeness goes on in this museum!!!
Some of my favorite exhibits were Takashi Murakami, a show curated by Mike D from the beastie boys and the graffiti one that had Banksy in it.

The exhibit is one of the largest one I've seen in LA (but it is smaller than LACMA).

Parking: Plenty of paid parking

Admission: sometimes they have a great deal online (google around)

Smaller space than the LACMA, but they fill the void in street art. Also in the heart of Little Tokyo. I don't go here as often, but MOCA never disappoints!

Really interesting location. If you don't have a handy dandy GPS, you might have a hard time finding it.

Most memorable art piece is the bloody red sanction room. It's a little creepy standing inside the room and suffocating!

Tip: If you ask the receptionist, they might be able to give you a bundle price (visit 3 museum for a price of one in one day).

Great exhibits! Right now, they're doing one reflecting the film Rebel Without A Cause (1955).
