Groundlings is the legendary comedy improv theater that has produced most of the Saturday Night Live greats. Skits are like SNL - can be a little hit or miss - but when they are on they are side-splittingly funny. I go here anytime I can and have always had an amazing night!

Home of the groundbreaking improve theater, the Groundling Comedy Theater has been the training ground for several of your favorite SNL performers and writers. If you have a chance, stop by and check out their many performances or try out to see if you can take classes here. Who knows, maybe we'll see you on SNL in a few years!

I've only been here for "The Black Version" improv show - but I've been at least half a dozen times. Check it out!

I laughed, I cried, I laughed, I cried.

I LAUGHED at the silly improv skits the performers expertly put on.

I CRIED when my stomach started to hurt from all the laughter.

I LAUGHED when I saw the $1 freshly baked cooookies that were offered during intermission.

I CRIED when I realized that my car had been towed from the #$@!! subway parking lot a block away (see my review on subway).

I had no idea what to expect for the Groundlings River Adventure before seeing it. Would there be rafting involved? Would there be water involved? I was curious to see how the title would translate into live sketch comedy and improv. It turns out the title didn't really have anything to do with the performance which consisted of 13 sketches and 5 improv performances based on audience suggestions.

Without revealing too much, my favorite sketches were about the unlikely motivational speaker, an unwitting phone actress, an unlikely dance production, cathartic dance, an unusual way to select a corporate executive and game night. The two-hour performance with a 10-minute intermission was HILARIOUS and so witty and time just flew by! Some of the cast members' mastery of comedic timing and physical humor was incredible. Even though there was minimal setup/prop, the sheer talent of the cast was more than enough to impress us. Combined with the loud but not deafening accompanying music, the stage was bursting with talent, energy and humor. This was the best $8 (with my half-off Living Social voucher) I've spent in a long time. It'd still be a good value at the $15 regular price. One of the performers was the Progressive Insurance lady with the blue eyes and the bright lipstick. I though the pre-rehearsed sketches were polished but some the improv performances were a little raw. Yet, I am very impressed with anyone who can stand on stage and make up their lines based on random audience suggestions on the spot.

There is meter parking on the street, but it's free after 8pm. Plan on getting there and be in line about 30 minutes before the show starts to get the better seats. However, the venue is tiny and intimate...maybe seating 100 people max. I think every seat offers fantastic views and there is no drink minimum. In fact, there is no drink or food service.

I used to drive by this place every day on my way to work and always thought it was a private preschool or kindergarten. Little did I know!

It's actually an improv troupe that's been around since the 70s, and it's fostered many well-known comedians and actors like Jack Black, Jimmy Falon, Conan O'Brien, Kristin Wiig and Maya Rudolph.

The current main company is hilarious and insanely entertaining. There wasn't a moment when I thought their performance was okay. It was fantastic throughout!

This is a great place for a date, a nice treat for yourself or for a fun outing with a small group of friends.

It's a fun night out, though I would still prefer seeing a show at Upright Citizens Brigade. Some of the comedy can come off a little forced, though it really depends on who is your show.

The Groundlings is a famous improv club that always makes for a fun night out. Its proximity to many nightlife spots doesn't hurt either.
